June 19, 200719 yr Very sad to hear about Coach Terry Hoeppner. The man fought it all he could. Hoeppner seemed like a fine person and was a great coach. Prayers from this U.K. fan to the Hoeppner family and to the I.U.family. There are no rivals when it comes to this. Times like this make everyone realize the things that are really important in life. R.I.P. Coach Hoeppner.
June 19, 200719 yr Sad news. This is one of those battles that is not often won. I had a good friend go through the same thing . Battled it for 18 months. Lost the battle.
June 19, 200719 yr Very sorry to see this. Obviously we all knew that he was ill, but I will say that I wasn't expecting this so soon. Rest well, Coach.
June 19, 200719 yr Author Very sorry to see this. Obviously we all knew that he was ill, but I will say that I wasn't expecting this so soon. Rest well, Coach.not that it matters, at all, now. But I was told last week that it was farther along than anyone was letting on. I don't think they were expecting this. But it was very obvious last week, he would never be back as coach. He was a hell of a coach, and he will be missed at Miami and IU. Hope his family knows how many he touched with his battle to beat this cancer.
June 19, 200719 yr This is extremely sad news, he seemed like a great coach and an even better person. My thoughts will be with the friends and family.
June 19, 200719 yr My Thoughts and Prayers are with the Hoepner Family and the Indiana football family. College football lost a great ambassador but heaven gained another Angel.
June 19, 200719 yr Quick Coach Hoep story. Going in to Big Ben's junior season I had an intern that was the video guy for the football team for 3 years before he started working for CPC. Coach Hoep granted us a press pass for the home games that season and said he would honor a request for a sit down interview with Ben once they got past the Marshall game on ESPN. That was at the beginning of the season and as we all know by the time Miami knocked off Marshall his stock was soaring. Hoep held true to his promise and I got a 15 minute sit down with Ben in the Cradle of Coaches room. At that point I had only been in the business for a few years and most of my work was covering NKY high school sports. He could have easily brushed us off, but he was a man of his word. That defined Coach Hoep and he will be missed...
