June 14, 200719 yr LOW CARB IS EXTRMELY UNHEALTHY!!! How you figure? How come doctors recommend it? Low carb doesn't mean no fruit and veggies. In fact I eat lots of fruit which contains suger/carbs. I stay away from bread, pasta, food with extra sugar, deep fried food, chips, soft drinks, etc. etc. I eat LOTS of lean meat, fruit, protein bars (with good carbs).
June 14, 200719 yr The best way to lose weight is to cut out pop and fast food and stay active. The more active the better. Its no miracle weight loss plan, but its a good life long plan. Exactly! Fad diets are ineffective over the long term, and can be dangerous.

June 14, 200719 yr LOW CARB IS EXTREMELY UNHEALTHY!!! This is simply a verified scientific fact. This is even more true when taken to the extreme, or for extended periods. If you want to lose weight, the healthiest (and wisest) thing to do is just eat less; but eat a wide range of good foods. Couple this with some moderate exercise, and you're on your way! No it isn't. A healthy low-carb diet (not no carb adtkins) is being recommended more and more by doctors. Bread, pasta, chips, sugar foods, and fried foods are filled with bad things. I just ate 1/3 pound of lean hamburger, about 3/4 cup of cottage cheese, and an apple. That's WAY less carbs than a typical meal and it's a pretty healthy meal.
June 14, 200719 yr Exactly! Fad diets are ineffective over the long term, and can be dangerous. Southbeach is more of a way to eat than a fad diet. It is centered around food that are healthy for the heart and changing your lifestyle. Eating less is all well and good, but if all you eat is fried foods, fast food, pasta, chips, candy, than you won't be healthy either. The best way to lose weight is eat small healthy meals and lots of them. Protein is passed as waste and carbs and fat can be stored if you don't burn them off. Protein won't hurt you either if you drink lots of water. I can't figure out what's unhealthy about that.
June 14, 200719 yr Black Ant, what you recommend is good for some people, but for others, eating carbs is NOT unhealthy. It depends on you metabolism, your level of excercise and activity and other factors....not the least of which is heredity.
June 14, 200719 yr I have done this diet and I will tell you first hand that it works. I was on the diet for 9 months, and it was the easiest way that I have ever found on losing weight. I lost 72 lbs. I had blood work done before and after the diet and my blood pressure, cholesterol (161),Triglycerdes all dropped. My doctor was even on this diet Like any other diets you really have to watch what you eat. Just because you are on a low carb diet does not mean you can go out and eat a dozen eggs, 6 hamburgers, and a bag of porkskins. This is where people really get confused about the low carb diet. It really works, the only problem is it gets very old eating the same thing time after time. Now I get sick just looking at a bag of porkskins. ewe!!!:scared:

I really think we're on the same page here -- just using different words. Carbohydrates are a crucial building block for our bodies. As with anything though, too much is not good, nor is too little. There's a big difference between carb control, and carb deprivation. The trick is finding that point of balance.
June 14, 200719 yr It is a very very poor diet....your body will itself in a bad way without carbohydrates.

June 14, 200719 yr I haven't done it, but my wife has and it was very successful for her. That being said I haven't read anyone else's comments on diets like Atkins, I will risk being redundant and mention that is very unhealthy for people to do.
