^A lot of people I know don't like him, but I'd go after Michael Barrett and Linebrink off that list. (Assuming Dunn is traded of course)

I say you keep future Hall of Famer Griffey Jr. Love watching his swing.

Buerhrle isnt all that. Reds starters are ok. Fix the pen. Trade Dunn for SOME relievers. Bring up Votto.

How many young players on the verge of making 13 million have to be taken out in close games when their team is ahead by a slim margin because they are a defenive liability?

If Krivsky is looking to follow the Twins model, and many claim he is, and it is a fair assumption when you compare markets, then a team is going to be built through the draft and then emphasis placed on pitching and defense. A 13 mil "one trick pony"...had to bring back my favorite line for Bruce Pearl...doesn't fit in especially if he can get you some pitching and defense.

Enough with the Twins model. It took them 7 years to produce a winner on the field. Are we prepared to wait 5 more years for a winner here?

That would be great if Linebrink wasn't a free agent at the end of the year...

True enough. How about Heath Bell then. He's been lights out this year.

I agree and they still haven't won in the postseason.

Let's model the Tigers.

Listening to Lance yesterday a caller called in and brought up a very good point.

Say we do save 11-12 million on trading Dunn, so we can bring in a couple of pitchers and another outfielder?

What in the past 2-3 years makes you think the Reds will spend that money wisely?

I'm sure there is some 40 year old journeyman out there salivating at the thought of the Reds clearing some money to overspend on an aging out of work player.

I agree and they still haven't won in the postseason.

Let's model the Tigers.

Same plan plus more free agent spending...

Okay....
Okay....

Except you already said you don't trust them to spend wisely...

I don't but clearly the Tigers plan is working better than the Twins.

Who won that division last year???

Only you would take the Division title over a ALCS and a trip to the World Series.

I think it's pretty clear both plans are very effective...
