June 19, 200719 yr Teapot Dome? Whitewater? Iran Contra? The Whiskey Ring? (Alledged) child with a slave? Andrew Johnson's Impeachment? (Multiple Prez's) Extra-marital affairs? I don't know how you can blame 'a great deal of that' on President Nixon. Not that I'm condoning Nixon's crimes, but he also did some good things, too: ended the Vietnam War, creation of the EPA, improved relations with China. Laying the public's lack of respect for the office of the President on solely on Nixon is incorrect IMO... I'm not picking on you specifically, but I LOVE seeing people compare huge political scandals with raunchy personal lives of Presidents. Yes, extramarital affairs are nauseating and annoying, and many people lose a personal respect for the Presidency, but those actions only effect the personal lives of those involved... as opposed to selling arms to terrorists.
June 19, 200719 yr Nixon was the first president whose scandals — and all other personal business, for that matter — were aired out in public, in real time on TV and in the papers. It is because of him that the presidency, and public office in general, faces the extreme level of media scrutiny we see today. Think FDR's being crippled would be a non-story today? I think its more of a case that every journalist thinks he can win a Pulitzer like Woodward and Bernstein if he can publish a scandal.

I believe the respect for the office began to falter during Johnson's term as the Vietnam war wore on people. Watergate just brought the feelings out into the open and put a face on them. The fact that two inept presidents followed Nixon just continued the downward spiral.

June 19, 200719 yr cartoonist have ripped on every president (except perhaps George Washington) since the beginning of this country. The only difference is today you have many differents forms to do it in. It's a long standing tradition in this country to make fun of the President and it is protected by our 1st amendment rights.
July 26, 200719 yr The show has improved. I took a look at the first episode or two, didn't find it to be too entertaining. Gave it another chance last night (after all, it is framed by South Park and The Daily Show, two of the best shows on TV), and it was much funnier. PS, The section on last night's Daily Show with Alberto Gonzalez was a riot. The guy is flaming out right before our eyes.

July 28, 200719 yr I'm a republican and I thought the show was hilarious lil tony blair cracks me up and lil dick chaney I think it is funnier than south park imo.
