I'm with you on this 98 I read about this last night at about 1 AM and the story has changed a bit since then. I'm not buying this yet.

Those witness statements look on par with a lot of others I have seen though the years. I do agree the Officer needs to work on his writing skills.

 

I want to hear Odell and Willie's side of the story before I begin to handicap this incident.

 

My gut feeling says there is a lot more to this story than what we know which may be why the police were not immediately contacted. Either way, waiting to call the police with an allegation this severe hurts the credibility of the alleged victims in my opinion.

It really depends on what happened and how strong the prosecution's case is in the matter.

No Bengals fan here, but I wouldn't be surprised to see this blow over.

That was my initial thought also. Either that or they may have tried (or at least considered) extorting some money out of Thurman to keep quiet.

 

That being said, however, please know that there are also less sinister reasons why victims don't immediately come forward. I've seen it many times. Fear and embarrassment are two major reasons why you sometimes see a delay in contacting the proper law enforcement authority. There are also instances in which the victim initially intends to "take care of the matter" on their own before coming to their better senses and contacting law enforcement. So don't always ascribe a delay in contacting police to necessarily being an evil thing. (Though in this case I do think something improper was going on).

 

Also, a delay in going to the police will not have any impact on whether this case is accepted for prosecution. The prosecutor will look solely at the facts of this case, whether a crime occurred, and whether he can prove the elements of this crime - not whether the victims should have come forward a day earlier.

I still don't think this story passes the smell test, but we'll see.
