It was a valuable car, now it's junk

5 years in juvenile for a kid who ran into a car, regardless how expensive it is, would seem a little outrageous to me personally.

That's freakin' stupid to charge the kid with anything. Criminal mischief? For running away from a bully?

The owner of the car should be charged with complete stupidity for having that car out in public and parked on the street like that.

Five years.

I would personally take time out of my "busy" day and send the judge a long letter on reasons why he shouldn't be serving on the bench if he gave a 10 year old five years for that.

I do not think the kid should be charged at all. If it would have been my truck he ran into that is worth maybe 2,000 would he have been charged there to???

I only had it parked there for a few hours. Was out for an afternoon drive...

:D

Accidents happen. The car needs to be repaired and paid for be it by insurance or the kids family but there is no reason what so ever to charge this kid with criminal mischief. Hopefully the owner and the judge realize that they were once young and do the right thing.

I saw this story today as well. The parts that caught my eye:

The woman - a single parent with five other children - said she was in the process of moving her family's belongings to a new residence Monday and had left the boy in a neighbor's care.

The boy's mother, who is currently unemployed, is stumped as to how she will pay for the damage, no matter how small.

"He said for the car to be fixed properly, he'd have to send it back to Italy," Collins said.

What a bunch of baloney.

Probably true.

I'm sure Jim's Hair Care and Tire Center can fix that car in a JIFFY! :thumb:

The owner of the car has to have some type of special insurance for it. I don't know a single person (other than professional truck drivers) that carries $1.5 million in liability insurance. If he were involved in an accident caused by another driver and the car was totaled, I guarantee you that the offending driver, even with insurance, could not pay the full value to fix that vehicle. Accidents happen - that's why this guy shouldn't have parked the car outside. Let the mother help pay the deductible, or "force" the kid to rake leaves for the elderly to make up his part.

Another case of the police not using common sense. And if stupidity were a crime, the car owner would get the chair for leaving it on the street. The kid and his unemployed mother are the smartest people involved in this, unfortunately...
