Much better than NKYboy is letting on. Ryan is a proud man, no question, but he isn't going to let his pride get in the way if he can come back and be a resource for those kids. He was never in it for the money, he is truly in it for the kids. I think the bigger question is what are the chances that Mike swallows his pride and actually has the stomach to ask Ryan to come back. I think that is the much slimmer odds. My guess is if Mike asks, after much soul-searching, Ryan would say yes. Ryan being the bigger man makes a lot of sense to me.

NOT a chance! Maile and Schrand have too many negatives for Listerman to tolerate:

1 they challenge him, not just agree with him

2 the kids really respected and liked them

3 they know the game, they know how to win big games

4 they are in it for the kids

5 the parents really respected and liked them

Not that unlikely....but they already have a replacement, as JLMP just noted.

I wish Buddy Pittman the best as the new assistant. It is a tough job to take with Listerman at the helm... To be successful at CCH with Listerman takes his favorite word "patience" and the ability to suggest ideas without fear of them being shot down...

 

That is why Maile and Schrand were successful...they didn't always get the style of basketball they wanted but they were never afraid to request something different... led to a great staff.

My understanding of all of this is when Kevin Listerman came to CovCath was that he was hired by the school to teach, which neither Schrand or Maile do. Most schools give the first shot to teachers to coach not para professionals. So if Schrand and Maile want to coach they should also teach IMO.

 

Sounds like the administration gave into the pressure of the alumni who were threatening to cut back on donations. I am sure Kevin is very heavy hearted since he didn't think he would be treated by the people of the school he loves the way he and his father have been.

 

Talk about well traveled.....Dick Maile. Nice man but lets see Holy Cross, Notre Dame, CovCath, back to one of those then back to the other etc. I am sure it is all about coaching his grandson at this point.

I totally doubt that, and even if it were true, could you blame him? If there is one person who could keep Luke's feet firmly planted on the ground and not allow his hat size to grow besides his Dad and Mom, it would be his Grandfather.... BTW how old is Coach Mr. Maile? Not a young man at all anymore. BTW; all of his coaching jobs were at local Catholic High Schools not noted to be high paying jobs at all.

Don't follow...................loyalty on behalf of Mike Listerman you didn't get that out of the football coach.

 

Coach Maile is a para professional. He has/had a construction company that allows him the flexibility to coach at little to no cost which is why he was on those staffs along with his knowledge. Coaching especially as a para professional is a privilege that really doesn't IMO give you the right to demand anything. Acknowledging Mr. Maile's age and all of the opportunity he has had to coach over the years you would think he would let the young guys have their opportunities.

 

I am not disrespecting Mr. Maile, he is a fine person, but what if every grand parent wanted to coach their grandson or daughter? It is bad enough with the parents.

 

I think Luke is a well grounded young man. He doesn't seem to be boastful or big headed in anyway.
