October 15, 200817 yr Some of my moments: The first time I heard Aerosmith and listened to every song over and over again. The first time I heard AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd. Seeing Garth Brooks in concert. Getting my first real guitar and just how hard I thought lessons were. Picking up a bass for the first time (bass is still my instrument of choice) Really listening to The Beatles. The Christmas morning when I was given my first bass guitar. The first live show I ever played....we thought we were awesome, only later can you look back and laugh at how bad we really were. The nerves and excitement right before opening for a nationally touring band. Getting a gig at one of Kentucky's largest music events after we impressed some people at that show. Going into the recording studio for the first time and how clueless we were. Hearing "November Rain" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" for the first time. Truly appreciating Queen. The song "Keeping the Faith" by Billy Joel. For some reason I associate this song with a particular drive, before a particular date. Discovering Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. Performing in my first musical - Into the Woods, a lot of work but a lot of fun. Releasing my band's first CD and hearing it on radio for the first time. Seeing "Movin' Out" and "The Lion King" on Broadway.
October 15, 200817 yr The first time "Werewovles of London" came on the radio shortly after Zevon died while my father were driving together. It was a strange moment because my Dad was always a huge fan and influenced my in my music taste. The first time I laid down at night and listened to "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For". Seeing the Stone Temple Pilots for the first time. Seeing Rage Against the Machine/Queens of the Stone Age was unbelievable.

Watching as a kid while Madonna personally defined the term, "sexy," for me as she performed Like a Virgin on the first MTV awards show. Watching as a kid while Michael Jackson awed the world with Billy Jean on the Motown Anniversary show. Who knew? My first Springsteen concert (with the E-Street Band). I can't compare it to other shows, or I'd never enjoy another concert again. Watching as The Eagles broke into Hotel California on the Hell Freeze's Over tour, and realizing how lucky I was to finally see them live. Watching the Moeller student section dance as the band breaks into, "Immigrant Song," before every kickoff and realizing great music transcends time. Watching on ABC's old Monday Night Baseball show as they showed clips of Pete Rose's 44 game hit streak to the Bob Seeger tune, "Still the Same." Still love the song to this day because of the tribute. And, oh by the way....the song is about a gambler.

October 15, 200817 yr The opening explosion when KISS opened with 'Detroit Rock City' in Rupp Arena (1970s) just blew me away. The sheer power. The first time I listened to Andres Segovia (the ultimate OMG moment) Watching Stanley Jordan play the guitar like a piano. Just remarkable.

October 16, 200817 yr Marvin Gaye singing the National Anthem at the 1983 NBA All Star Game. The first time I put "Born To Run" on the turntable and out poured "Thunder Road". Going to the "Wings Over America" Tour in 1976 and hearing Paul sing "Yesterday". Watching a Frank Sinatra TV special in 1981 and thinking "That would be the coolest job in the world". Going to the cinema (The Village) for the first time in 1973 to see "American Graffiti" and listening to "Rock Around The Clock" blasting over the credits. Going to The Esquire to see "A Hard Day's Night". Hearing Elton John's "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" for the first time at age 14. Watching "The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour" when he opened the show with "Gentle On My Mind". Watching "Apocalypse Now" opening credits as The Doors' "The End" plays. Seeing Roy Orbison in concert 6 months before his death. Hearing Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss sing "Whiskey Lullaby" on TV and remarking to my mother, "That may be the saddest thing I ever heard". Going to the Simon and Garfunkel "Old Friends" tour a few years back. I had goose bumps for over 2 hours. Seeing Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" video on "The Midnight Special" over 30 years ago. October 16, 200817 yr The ultimate music moment for me was July 2nd, 1992. that is the day my Grandmother passed away. She died at home, surrounded by her family and loved ones. When the funeral home came to take her away, my cousins and I went to my aunts house next door so we wouldn't have to see her leave. We went into my cousin Hollie's room and sat in a circle. As you can imagine, emotions were very high. Someone decided to turn on a radio that was sitting in the room, and as soon as they did, "Tears in Heaven" by Eric Clapton came on. There wasn't a dry eye in the room. To this day, every July 2nd I call a radio station and have them play that song in memory of her. Other moment's include hearing a bagpipe play "Amazing Grace" in person for the 1st time. Dancing to "At Last" (Stevie Nicks version) with my wife on our wedding day.
October 16, 200817 yr Watching Clapton,Bruce and Baker reunite a couple years ago for the first time in 30 years. The first time I heard the Who's "Love Reign O'er Me" way back when.
