May 22, 200719 yr For the last 10 years or so, I have wanted a Hovawart. Its a German breed and I had a dog when I was a kid that looked just like this breed (the black and tan version) and shared many of the characteristics of it. In searching for a similar dog a few years ago, I discovered the Hovawart and fell in love. Read about the breed and see more pics @ this Hovawart Info Page. Good looking dogs but the name sounds like something you'd find in a health store. :creepy:

May 22, 200719 yr I spoke with some people "in the know" about dogs the other day. I'm a huge lover of mutts. I think they're adorable, and irresistable. I found out that mutts tend to be healthier, in the long run, than purebred dogs. I don't know why I posted this...just thought it was interesting.
May 22, 200719 yr I think it is because of selective breeding. A lot of times a purebreed will be succeptible to certain diseases because of that, where a mutt has a more diverse genetic makeup and therefore a healthier immune system (as a whole).

They're less prone to congenital defects and diseases.
May 22, 200719 yr We have a collie/beagle mix and it is the best dog in the world. I have three kids and it never has bit, snapped or anything to them kids. I also really love beagles. Those are by far my favorite.
May 23, 200719 yr I took my dog for a walk the other day (a short 12 to 15 minute walk that is) and I thought I killed the poor thing. :eek:
