I'm with ya man! I love the bigger breeds. My Rott just had to be put down at age 13. His hips were so badly injured he couldn't walk on his own anymore. :cry: :cry: :cry:

 

He was put down 3 days before my birthday too! That really was not fun.

 

 

I am currently researching the Alaskan Malamute though. I figure it would be a breed of dog more amenable for my roommates. Rotts are awesome dogs but I don't have the time needed to dedicate to properly raising one right now. They are great dogs but among the most challenging to raise properly.

 

Unfortunately a large number of people that have them get them because they are big "mean lookin' dawgs," then they treat the in such a way that they end up that way. Ours was an absolute angel. He never bit a single person, outside of accidently nipping you when handing him food. Protected the whole family and never knew a stranger.

 

I am going to stop now. I wrote out a huge four page farewell to him when he was put down. I find myself close to typing something out so I'll stop here while I am ahead.

 

Thats sad man, sorry about that. A family down the street has a Rotweiller that leaves their yard and comes up to mine every few days. It's a nice dog, I've never had it look at me the wrong way. It gets along well with my dogs too.

A bit bigger than the Huskie without the blue eyes and slightly more bulky muzzle. Their eyes are also close to the muzzle than a huskie.

Neers and Run to State...my Bassett Hound just died a three weeks ago. I have been heartbroken since. Neers and dolamite, yours are beautiful.

Most Rotts I have been around are some of the biggest babies. They are great dogs that have gotten a bad rap at times. It is just ashame the way some people can treat animals.

I would like to find one that needs to be rescued and adopt this summer.

Well, she is a lot happier than when we got her. She was an abused dog that the rescue people found wandering around up by a lake. Her tail had been chopped off, and God knows what else had happened to her. I know she's extremely scared of men. I'm the only one she'll really trust to any extent.

 

She still has some fear issues with people outside the family, but has come a long way. If a stranger greets her on her own terms she'll sometimes come up to them. But she loves to play and is the sweetest little dog you could ever ask for.

 

Ironically, that picture was taken on her first day here. Looks can be deceiving I guess.

I love all dogs... Growing up we had Great Danes, I use to ride them like hourses.

 

I now have 2 boy Shih Tzus, not much of a manly dog, but the girls love them... :thumb:

Once she passes on, I will replace her with the next breed I want to own, Great Dane.

I have one rescued[beagle],1 given to us[part Sharpei.../pit bull],1 found starving and neglected[black lab],1 bought[golden retriever]and 1 adopted after being hit by a bus and he lost an eye,broken jaw and part of the tongue tore off[jack russell/beagle]....I want to get him a patch but the wife wont let me.
