Jordan wasn't even that great of a college player.

I think another interesting thing to consider is how in regards to this thread, those within the last 10 years or so get no consideration because of early deflections into the NBA - this leads me to believe we may never have another guy make the list unless they stay at least two seasons and dominate the game.

 

For example, we are excluding Kevin Durrant from the discussion just because he is one and done. No Freshman has ever played with that kind of ability.

Jordan was a two-time Wooden All-American, once winning the POY award. Was he one of the all-time greats??? I do not think so.

Don't get me wrong he was good but there are some college Legends being left off the list for him.

I have always heard this about MJ in college. The only person who can keep MJ from scoring 30 when he wants...Dean Smith.

Will also put Pistol Pete here. I believe he, not Michael Jordan, transformed the college game the most. Not to mention he is the all-time leading scorer in Division 1 history.

Other than my votes, don't know. I was just giving my reason. I never liked Hurley or Duke, but He was a great college PG.

 

I believe the top 3 are.

 

1. Bobby Hurley - Duke

2. Chris Corchiani - NC state

3. Ed Cota - UNC

He did play his senior year. He did not play his freshman because freshman were ineligible at that time to play.

Dan Issel played center in college. What position did Jerry Lucas play? He was another monster in college but I'm thinking he was a center which leaves him out in the cold.

I've looked through this whole thread and I can't believe no one has mentioned Bill Russell. Led his team to 55 straight victories while averaging 20 and 20. Forced the NCAA to widen the lane and other rules which became known as Russell's Rules. Also excelled in track and field at San Francisco University. Just an absolute stud on the defensive end as well.

that and David Thompson is not on more teams. John Wooden said he was the greatest College player he has ever seen.

I thought Mashburn accomplished a lot as a college player. He could do it all as well. He could hit the 3, and shot a very good %, post up, handle the ball, was a great passer, and did a very good job on the boards. In his last 2 years he fouled out in OT, after having a monster game against Duke, then the next year fouled out in OT after having a mosnter game against Michigan. UK would have probably won that game if Mash didnt foul out. Both years he really caried the team at times and was amazing!

PG:Magic Johnson...over the Pistol because he was a 6'8 PG, but could also play other positions if needed.

Oscar Robertson...I don't know where to put him, but he HAS to be on my team.

 

Jordan was a good college player, but he wasn't around long enough to be called great. The center spot was tough because one could just as easily listed Bill Russell, Bill Walton, or Wilt Chamberlein.
