AP All-State team announced

Featured Replies

Profitt isn't a top 5 player in the state IMO. When he actually played against a good defensive team, he got shut down.

Other than that, both selections look good. Congrats to all of the players.

Was Huntington ever #1 in the USA Today rankings ... or were they simply at #2 and poised to move up to #1 the next week? .

You are correct. Huntington was #2 in USA Today and was #1 in the other 6 high school polls.

Daniel Neeley not mentioned anywhere. Maybe not a first or second teamer but definitely worthy of honorable mention.

I agree. The 3rd rated player n the 8th region should have at least been an Honorable Mention.

Jon VanHoose doesn't even get HM?

AP Awards are voted on by Journalists only. Associated Press. To my knowledge there is no ballot. I think there are only like 12-15 journalists or papers in the state that are AP certified and able to vote anyway. Nice to be recognized but the Courier-Journal and Herald-Leader awards are by the Head Coach's in the state. I may be wrong on this anybody else want to chime in?

Which all goes to show how valid those things are ...

You're right on all the info about the AP other than that there is an online ballot. Before the actual vote, they take nominations from each of the AP papers. The point is basically to list anybody in your area who may even be remotely worthy of consideration. Everybody nominated gets on the ballot.

As jonathan mentioned above, we were shocked to see Hicks not on the ballot. The only thing I can think of is that when nominations were made, their nearby papers, for whatever reason, didn't nominate him, and everybody else assumed it was such an obvious call that they didn't have to.

That surprised me also.

This is a complete joke! No way Miller shouldn't be on that 1st team

I just get a kick out of every post you make. You are always trying to downplay young men and their abilities and accomplishments. How is it being a "glass is half empty" guy?

I get a kick how you rarely, if ever, attack the substance of my posts ... you just question my motives.

Have fun on the Scott bandwagon ...

Here is the thing. Huntington lost 2 games all year. The other lost was to a really good team as well. No team in America finished undefeated. Now to beat Huntington with that lineup was a major accomplishment. To go undefeated in the state of Kentucky is a major accomplishment that hasnt been done in almost 60 years. You can twist it any way you want it, but you cannot take anything away from what they did this year.

I agree. I really don't like anything that has to do with Scott Co. but it is hard to ignore the facts. What they did this year was very impressive.

That's just it ... I'm not taking anything away from what Scott County accomplished this season. You simply act as if I am.

But, judging from some of your comments, it's almost as you insist on acting like the Cardinals did it with sort of a ragtag group led by a magician coach and a senior guard that elevated good, but not great, talent into a state champion. I just don't see it that way. The Cardinals were one of the most talented teams that this state has seen in some time. I'm giving them significant credit for that, more than you seem to be.
