I seen a lot of Holmes games and well, Greg Rice should be on this team somewhere. Also Todd Jacobs had a great year on a team that was in the top 10 in the state all year long. The people who voted on this must not have seen many NKY games, because these two should have at least been HM.

 

I agree. A lot of good NKY players got passed up. But it's alright. Holmes was the only school to have 2 players selected to play on the KY All Star team in Rice and Hill, so it just proves how blind the people who chose the honorable mention and 1st and 2nd team really are.

Did Rice miss part of the season? That would be a reason I could see him not making it. Hill IMO should have been on the 2nd team All State team.

Rice missed I think 4 or 5 games for violating a team rule.

The AP poll is nothing more than a political joke to begin with. The fact of either one of them making it only confirms it further.

Yeah, I noticed that when Stepp was 2nd team. Talent will get you farther than Politics in this game, because fans can see whats going on. Politics may get you farther in life though...lol:D

I was just talking about my thoughts on the validity of the AP poll. I would tend to take the view of a coaches poll (where there could be as many as 100 votes) much closer to being accurate, as I would a poll that is comprised of the opinion of maybe a dozen members of the media spread all across the state. In my opinion most AP polls can tend to be dominated by a group of 3 or 4 writers that more than likely never picked a ball up in their lives, that might want to make an agenda to perhaps get a local boy on, or for some other various reason.

Profitt isn't a top 5 player in the state IMO. When he actually played against a good defensive team, he got shut down.

 

Other than that, both selections look good. Congrats to all of the players.

Profitt is a nice player, just not as good as he is hyped to be. Definetly not better than some of the players he was chosen over who proved themselves against tougher competition.

Profitt did seem to handle the ball well... And probably has a decent jumper when Arrez Henderson isn't guarding him. I just felt that he was overweight and slow. Once he gets to ND and drops some lbs, I'm sure his game will improve drastically.

Agreed. Profitt is a good ball handler. He just seemed selfish at times and took off balance shots because he was getting frustrated that everywhere he went Henderson was right in his hip.

 

But Profitt will see much better defenders at the next level than Henderson which is why I feel he's overrated. Against athletic defenders, he struggles.

I think Proffit put too much on himself to try to do too much and it hurt his team. Plus Holmes was a very athletic bunch. Proffit won't be a pointguard at the next level, which will help him a lot I believe. Hes a good ball player and his high school career speaks for itself.

Couldn't agree anymore there. And Profitt is a good ball player, don't get me wrong...I just don't think he's as good as advertised.

I think it depends on who is evaluating him. Ive heard a lot of people who arent very high on him. I believe in his class he is a top 5 or 6 player.

I beg to differ. Scott County is the state's best program ... I don't have a problem saying that, and I've said repeatedly that this team was one of the best and most talented we've seen in this state in years. Just because I don't see everything through red-colored glasses, I'm some sort of malcontent.

 

Geez, if I really wanted to tweak you I would ask you how in the heck you guys lost to Arlington Country Day by 15 points ...

 

I think where Log Mountain and I get this from is:

 

1. Your comment that Billy Hicks ONLY did what was expected of him. As if beating Reno Galena with the great Luke Babbitt (Ohio State), and Baltimore Mount Saint Josephs with Dino Gregory (Maryland) and Henry Sims was expected.

 

2. You have downplayed Scott County's once in a lifetime win over the #1 team in the nation because (a) in one poll they were only #2 and (b) Huntington was "disfunctional".

 

3. You seem to feel going undefeated against BY FAR the strongest schedule in the state was expected even though several writers did not predict SC to win the Sweet 16. A few predicted they would not make it out of the tough 11th region. Going undefeated in only happens about once every 60 years.

 

4. You are quick to point out one of their only two loses of the year.

 

To say Scott County and Hicks did ONLY what was expected of them is absolutly ridiculous.

 

One other thing I want to point out is Log Mountain is a Bell County High School fan and I myself live about 100 miles from Georgetown. But we both recognize the historic accomplishments of this basketball team. To not give this team and coaching staff the credit they deserve is nuts.

Your assessment of my view isn't entirely accurate. Nothing that Scott County did this year came as any surprise to me ... they were the best team in Kentucky from wire to wire and there is no doubt that they had enough talent, coaching, etc., to navigate their schedule the way they did.

 

Galena ended the season with a 23-9 record, with several losses by double digits ... granted, they were to very talented teams, but Galena wasn't some national superpower by any measure. The same could be said for Mount St. Joseph, who went 24-8.

 

So what if they had one or more Division I recruits? So does Scott County.

As for Huntington ... I doubt very seriously, given their issues, that they were the best team in the country or ever were at one time. The most-hyped, maybe. I would take Chicago Simeon over Huntington, for starters.

I was hardly quick about it ... I brought it up only after being hammered on the issue.

I know LMB is a Bell Countian, but he's also driving the Scott County bandwagon and, in my view, seems to have some sort of vested interest in the program ... as do you.

 

And I haven't taken any credit away from them. I've simply pointed out that Scott County was very talented and one of the best teams we've had in this state in some time. I don't see how that gets construed as some sort of critique.
