Who didn't predict Scott County to come out of the 11th Region? Who didn't pick them to win the state title?

Les Dixon of the Corbin Times Tribune predicted Ballard would win the Sweet 16. The writer that covers the 11th region for the Catspause Yearbook predicted Madison Central would win the 11th. These are two. I am sure there were others.

When did the 11th Region writer pick Madison Central? In the preseason magazine, or just before the postseason? And, of course, he writes for the Richmond Register, so he might have a little bias in the matter.

 

And you said "a few" ... he's only just one.

 

With all due respect to Les Dixon, who was almost right ... he was clearly in the minority.

Galena ended the season with a 23-9 record, with several losses by double digits ... granted, they were to very talented teams, but Galena wasn't some national superpower by any measure. The same could be said for Mount St. Joseph, who went 24-8..

 

Galena finished as 4A State Champions in Nevada. There losses were to teams like Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, California), Weschester (LA), Domenques (Compton, California), Artesia (California) twice, St Johns (DC), amd Scott Co (Kentucky). Going 24-8 and being 4A state champions with this schedule is not too shabby wouldn't you say.

Your assessment of my view isn't entirely accurate. Nothing that Scott County did this year came as any surprise to me ... they were the best team in Kentucky from wire to wire and there is no doubt that they had enough talent, coaching, etc., to navigate their schedule the way they did.

So what if they had one or more Division I recruits? So does Scott County.

As for Huntington ... I doubt very seriously, given their issues, that they were the best team in the country or ever were at one time. The most-hyped, maybe. I would take Chicago Simeon over Huntington, for starters.

I was hardly quick about it ... I brought it up only after being hammered on the issue.

I know LMB is a Bell Countian, but he's also driving the Scott County bandwagon and, in my view, seems to have some sort of vested interest in the program ... as do you.

 

And I haven't taken any credit away from them. I've simply pointed out that Scott County was very talented and one of the best teams we've had in this state in some time. I don't see how that gets construed as some sort of critique.

One thing that I have noticed that happens every year and will continue to happen as long as there are any all state teams named no matter whose poll it is: There will always be complaining and questioning why this one made it or this one didn't. The fact is the only have so many spots and there will always be a number of deserving kids left out. That is life. This is why in my previous post I just gave my congrats to all that have made all state and hm all state. JMO

 

Imo we should praise all of the kids that play all over the state and put in the time, hard work and dedication that it takes to play the game. So, thanks to ALL that have played h.s. basketball :ylsuper: , these are the best years of your life and you wil make memories that last a lifetime. :thumb:

One. Darius Miller. Second Team All-State. Laughable, he is the best player in the state regardless of class. I can see Pettigrew winning overall, but Miller, second team?

Two. VanHoose. Didn't even make honorable mention? One of the few kids in the state to sign a D-1 grant and can't make Honorable Mention?

Third. Is there a list of writers who submitted ballots and a list of those who didn't turn one in?

I didn't say they were shabby ... I said they weren't a national power, which is what you and others imply with your posts.

They beat some darn good teams, yes. They also lost to an Arlington Country Day team that I feel they should have beaten.

 

I seriously doubt that Galena and Mount St. Joseph, are signifcantly better (or better at all) than some of the Kentucky teams Scott County beat this year.

"Fraudulent" is a bit harsh. Like the AP poll, a subject that I've addressed in the past elsewhere on this board, it is subject to regional bias.

Miller probably is the most talented player in the state, although his game-to-game intensity has been questioned a bit. I saw him essentially go through the motions for the significant part of one game this season.

A very reasonable question. In my personal opinion, he wasn't one of the top 10 players in the state, but it's hard to believe he didn't get any votes.

The AP lists the voters in each of its football and basketball polls each week ... I don't know if it does the same thing for all-state votes.

I have not seen the Vanhoose kid play. But from what I have heard he is a very talented player. His team was probably the best team in the region before he got injured.

Its pretty much a toss up with those 2 at 6 and 7 to me. I believe that Proffit does somethings better than Hill and vice versa. Thats just the way I see it.

:thumb: Profitt is probably a better ball handler and quicker, but Hill is a better slasher and rebounder. Either way they're both nice players.

Would you really take Walls, Beckham, Rice, Profitt, Hill, and Beaumont over Preston Knowles?

I only watched Knowles play 4 times against North Laurel, Scott County, Lexington Catholic, and Ballard. From those 4 games I would take Knowles above all the guards except Walls and possibly Beckham.
