You have to go by primary rooting interest. In all college sports, my primary rooting interest is U of L. If you were asked, which college football team do you root for the most, what would be your answer? If it's tO$U, then you're a tO$U football fan.

First of all I certinly do not need you to "break down" anything for me. I also do not need you to tell me who I am fan of and why  . If you thought that I was pegging you as a fan or not a fan of anyone that was not my intention. You telling me who and why I am a fan of any team and where that positions itself on whatever scale and/ or thinking that YOU use is very laughable  . You are one of a few on here that if everyone doesn't see things YOUR way then they are wrong  I will not bother with anything else with this, it is useless. There would just be another spin put on it.

No longer, I am done with it. :D :thumb:

Yes. Whites would be a minority in Kentucky. The largest minority, but a minority. Because if you broke it down by

45% White

55% Nonwhite

it becomes pretty clear what the minority is.

All are minorities. I understand why it can be confusing, but it is the proper use of the word.

I still don’t see it your way….

If UK football fans are the minority in the state of Kentucky then what team has the majority??? And please note I said team not teams, because its not UK vs. UL, WKU, IU, OSU and UC combined that’s not a fair comparison.

Also the 50% argument is only valid if your dealing with 2 sums that make a whole, in the context of this discussion there are more than two sums despite the fact you have tried to break it down as if it’s UK verse everyone else….

For example rank the teams with the largest fan following 1-5

1. UK

2. UL

3. OSU

4. UC

5. IU

The team with a 1 by its name has the majority, all others are the minority.

Always remember, Ignorance is Bliss... ;)

   Then there are few on here that should be the happiest people on earth ;):D

It doesn't matter how you see it, that's not what the word MEANS.

You're thinking of plurality, which means the largest choice, regardless of whether that choice is a majority.

Really?

What is Louisville's Athletic budget for this year?

UK's is over $60 million of tax-free dollars.

His list is for endowment, not athletic budget.

I don't think any one who knows the issue will claim that Louisville has a larger athletic budget... although Louisville DOES have a more profitable athletic department.

ma·jor·i·ty

(mə-jôr'ĭ-tē, -jŏr'-) Pronunciation Key

n. pl. ma·jor·i·ties

The greater number or part; a number more than half of the total.

The amount by which the greater number of votes cast, as in an election, exceeds the total number of remaining votes.

The political party, group, or faction having the most power by virtue of its larger representation or electoral strength.

Law The status of having reached full legal age, with attendant rights and responsibilities.

The military rank, commission, or office of a major.

Obsolete The fact or state of being greater; superiority.

I guess I’m looking at it as if you have to declare a majority who would it be,

So if you have 100 senators in the senate and majority rule is in effect and you have,

47 republicans

42 democrats

1 independent

Then what group has the majority of the senate?

Proof is in the budget.

If you make so much money your budget should increase.

Great site in which you can look at the monies of all schools.

UK balances their budget. They don't need to be in the black. They are well into the black without showing it.

The UKAA only receives 1/3 of it's merchandising revenue. The university general fund receives the other 2/3, which goes into it's general coffers.

So that is a huge chunk of change. They fund university general scholarships.

UK's revenue was over 57 million dollars. Plus they make more in football but less in basketball.

The Senate doesn't have 100 members in your breakdown.

Your own cite shows the definition you're using to be obsolete, whereas the definition that RRR and I are using the FIRST definition.

Wikipedia has a good breakdown of majority and plurality. The term as you are using it is the equivilant to the use of the term 'simple majority' outside of the United States.

Revenue is only half the chart. UK has more expenses than U of L does.

Change the independent to 11... my bad...

So let me get this strait in the state of KY no team has a majority of the fan base... is that correct?

Correct. In football, any way.

If you change your example to 11 independents, similarly no individual group would have a majority. Some would have to cross party lines to form majorities.
