Rank Coaching Jobs in State

Featured Replies

Breathitt would have to be up there. You would get the support of everyone in the county, in just about everything you do. You have an amazing stadium, and weight room. The fan base is great, and tradition is rich. In my opinion Breathitt would be in the top 10. If i had to pick one from eastern kentucky, it would be between Breathitt and Bell county.
Id throw Corbin in on your side of the mountains along with Bell and Breathitt. On the other side its how its always been with Pikeville,Belfry, and P-burg. The 2 worst jobs in the mountains IMO are Shelby Valley and Magoffin. You get no supptort whatsoever at either one of those places for football.

The Lexington Herald Leader named Pikeville as one the best jobs in the state a while back.

Ruckus, welcome to BGP and are you trying to start one? Look at the fields for the Rocks and the new X place. They have the best jobs and everyone on here knows it. I'm OK with it too. Now I haven't been to the places out in the state very much but I did enjoy going to Highlands.

I knew someone that interviewed for the Central job and they said they would get 55 days. That makes it one of the highest paid jobs in the state. I think that Madsion Southern is similar. Would that make SOuthern one of the best jobs in the state? According to some it would.

That may be right I wasn't exactly sure on what the contract was on the amount of extended days. I didn't know it was that high but it could be, I'm really not sure. Southern is one of the highest paid coaching jobs, one of the main reasons a lot of EKU assistant football coaches always try to get it, but the talent is not much so that clearly lowers the level of the job.

Very good point. Money does not always make it a good job. :thumb:

Belfry is up there IMO.

Support from administration = ridiculous

Fan support = VERY GOOD

Talent level/feeder system = Decent for a similarly sized school

Proximity to WV = does bring in the occasional transfer (not recruited)

Budget = one of the tops in the state if I recall

Salary = not sure, bet its good

Statewide Prestige - Above average in media/good among those who know

Support from administration = ridiculous

Are you saying that is good, or bad?

Ridiculously good.

Breathitt has to rank up there. Year in and year out they are expeted to win. With being what is now a 3A school, the talent that they have is second to none. Coach Holcomb is one of the best coaches in the state. When you drive threw jackson on a friday night in that fall, noone is on the streets, they are all at the game. The current superintendent is all for the athletics at breathitt. He has done alot already in what few years he has been there. Statewide Breathitt is known for their sportsmanship. Breathitt is, if not close to being the best job in 3A

Keep all of the catholic schools out of the equation.....They don't pay enough and that is what I would say is part of a top 10 job...

Why would you want to include high salaries for the best jobs? There is more than high pay involved. None of the jobs in High school football pay a lot of money. It is support from administration and community that far exceeds the pay for the best jobs. A lot of winning programs do not mean the coaches get paid more than others.

Its good to see that Nelson Co. has worked its way off of the "tough jobs" list.

Maybe in the top 40 schools inthe state:sssh:

I agree with you 100%. It's hard for those schools especially when your close to schools such as, Belfry, and Johnson Central. I feel for those schools. I will say this though, Breathitt isn't as big of a power as they have been in the past. Mostly due to the fact that the boys that come through there are petted growing up. Coach Holcomb does an amazing job with the talent he has, and what talent is lacking. I will say this, high school has alot to do with coaching, and Breathitt is second to none with coaches such as Mike Holcomb, and John Paul Chapman.

I think the top job(s) would be one(s) a happy coach in a good situation would leave for.

Coach's at Prestonsburg in last 25 years had to win or get out of town.

Except for one...he got tangled in Floyd Co. Board politics. :irked:

LexCath is now the beneficiary of this coach's ability.

Wow...where have you been the last few years ?!?

There's been one position, discussed here 3 years ago, that was taken at over $100,000 !! And this was at a former 3A non tradition-rich school.

That's "a lot of money" if you ask me. ;)
