Rank Coaching Jobs in State

Featured Replies

Back in the day Lawrence County was a good coaching job. Lately, I like Belfry and Breathitt around here locally. Russell has to be thrown into the mix too.

Instead of ranking the best jobs , should praise the dedicated coaches and supporters at the smallest schools struggling to keep this valuable activity alive. Having watched alot of 2a football in last several years each coach and community are doing a great job or at least the best they can with what they have to work with ..... Kids across Ky are benefitting from particpating in this team sport ...

Speaking of Floyd County....are those school board members going to wise up and eliminate the politically motivated "You can't coach if you are a school administrator"?????????

That policy smells something fierce...even 50 miles away it smells.

The workings of the Floyd Co. BOE are not fit for discussion here. :irked:

I wish the City of Prestonsburg would put on the full court press to have the city's schools declared independent. It would be a real boon to academics and athletics, ala Pikeville and Paintsville schools.

Of course, the current BOE would (and have) fight it to the death. Too much loss of county tax base...

:bunny:

Just thought it was a bizarre policy and it could have an impact on athletic coaches in all sports.

Of course it is.

A coach who could also qualify (educationally) for a school administration position would find himself very limited in career opportunity. I'm sure there was someone in the past for whom the rule was crafted...but this gets off the subject.

I would say that I would go to alot of those catholic schools. Trinty, X, etc. Those are the best programs in the state.

...especially if your looking to move upward to a college job. Include 'em all! Why can't we all just get along???

By the way how is a good job defined?

Support from the adminstration?

Pay (teacher/coaching)?

Teaching Schedule?

How many asst. in the building?

Feeder Programs?

Fan Support?

Budget/Fundraising?

Based on this criteria, I'd say Marty Jaggers at Mercer Co. has a great job.

Support from Administration (Superintendent) is 100%!!

Pay (word around town) is around $85,000 both teaching/coaching

Teaching Schedule is Homebound

Approximately 9 assistants with other support staff

Middle School & Little League Feeder Programs

Fan Support is incredible (especially with a State Title in 2006)

Budget is also very good as 1 of the booster parents indicated they have about $40,000 carry over from last year and they don't have to buy uniforms, equipment, etc. with this. The district pays for those expenses.

Oh... and don't forget the new indoor athletic facility which is second to none in the state (public schools that is).

When did that policy start I know there was basketball coach in the county that did both.

South,

I heard it was passed by the board (Floyd Co.) effective this year.

When places make a committment like Mercer Co. to become the best, the end results are very attractive and supportive for winning teams/programs.
