April 7, 200719 yr Easter Sunday will be here soon and I know we talked about it last year, so I just want to hear some feedback about your thoughts on Easter. My wife still gets the kids a basket with goodies and thats Ok with me because my kids know about Easter. I get some things too. I love Easter because with out Jesus Christ being on the cross and three days later rising from the tomb we would have no faith. Paul even mentions that in scripture. Luke 24 does a beautiful job in the way Jesus came back to find his disciples and the women. I have some more thoughts but I'll wait on some things so y'all can share some thoughts. Happy Easter Everyone! I agree...Me and my family were goin' to try to have a cookout, if it warms up by Easter, it's still on but man it's cold.
April 7, 200719 yr Question as we are in a Bible Study on Easter right now. Jesus appears to Mary Magadelene after the resurrection and he tells her to not cling to him that he has not yet ascended to His Father. Does the ascension have more to do with this than what me have believed up to this point? As far as the original question, without the resurrection there is no meaning to Christianity and Jesus is no different than any of the other religious figures of Buddha or Mohammed. Simply religious men who died. While I have some hangups on the Catholic religion, they do have a grand stage to do things during these holidays. But it our faith should be more than just the pomp and circumstances of a few holidays and EVERYDAY should be treated as Easter. Sadly, I am the first to admit that I don't do that.
April 7, 200719 yr Author My wife wants to go shopping for some clothes for her and the kids and she ask me if I wanted anything new. I said "Easter isn't about getting new clothes and going to a service, I'm happy with what I got and hoping to have a great day". She replied..."great! More money for me". Maybe I'm not right, but it really gets me that our church will be over flowing on Sunday. Thats OK, but where are the people the rest of the year? Don't they get it? They know enough to go on Easter...they know its about the cross and Jesus and that they should attend a service. But how can they just go once a year and still expect Salvation! A "true Christian "will attend every chance they get. If they study the Bible it tells us to go and worship with other Christians. How do you learn the meaning of the scriptures if you can't explain to someone your thoughts and get feedback! A person told me once..."I've read the whole Bible". OK...But have you studied the Bible?" I've yet to "read" the Bible til this day. But have I studied scripture? I'd love to stand up and ask folks.."how come you only come to Church once a year? Don't you get it? Once you are gone its over people, you can't go back and do a redo. What kind of world would it be if everyone studied their Bible and did what it said to do or just the New Testament? Thats what God wants us to do. Luke 16 is very clear. A man is in torment and wants to go back and tell his brothers about this terrible place, but Jesus makes it clear "you had your chance, you had the Bible and preachers who are trained to help you and now you will burn because of your rejection of me". How can people miss that? Isn't that scary? Every knee will bow, every tongue will confess before me and say that Jesus is Lord. Please tell someone about the Gift of Jesus Christ that God has given us to fulfill the Old testament Law and how much he loves and blesses us. We are told to warn others about Satan. In Ezekiel 3:16 God tells man to do just that, "and even if he hears you but yet still does nothing you will be granted life because you tried to warn him". That verse is so important that it repeated later in the same chapter and again later in chapter 33. I'll be praying for my Brothers and Sisters and your loved ones all day and each day that I live. "Jesus loves me this I know. because the Bible tells me so". So simple but so strong. I don't really know you but I love you.
April 9, 200719 yr Author Our sevice we were down in numbers, but had a great worship period. There were several new faces and we are hoping they return. My son's girlfriend at her church they had to bring in extra seats. Our choir for the second year put on the Musical God's Son and it was really moving. To see Jesus protrayed in the play and the whole Gospel done in one hour...well I wished all of y'all could have been there.
April 2, 200917 yr I thought it would be good to bring this thread back. Easter this year is April 12. AL proposed the question - EASTER...What does it mean to you? As for me I'm so humbled and very thankful that Jesus gave his life for me. "I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die like everyone else, will live again. They are given eternal life for believing in me and will never perish" (John 11:25-26). But not only did Jesus die for our sin, he rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:3-6). When he did, he proved beyond doubt that he can rightfully promise eternal life - that he is the Son of God. Jesus paid the price for our sin and in so doing, bridged the gap between us and God. "For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that he might bring us to God" (1Peter 3:8).
April 2, 200917 yr Marshmellow Peeps that you can put in the microwave. Never tried that but it sounds good.
April 2, 200917 yr We attend services then have a family cookout. Several years ago the women of the family decided that they were tired of spending the entire afternoon in the kitchen cooking ham with all the fixings. Now the families get together and grill steaks. It has become a family tradition and one we all thoroughly enjoy.
April 2, 200917 yr As most of you know, I went through open heart surgery on May 11, 2007 and my mother died October 3, 2008. Before my surgery and before my mother's death, our family lived through some really rough times. There were times that if we didn't have our faith I don't know what we would have done. A little over a week ago I was driving home from work without any radio on because I just wanted quite time. During my quite time memories of my mother just flooded through my head. At one point I turned my head to wipe my eyes and there in someone's yard was the most beautiful bunch of buttercups that I've ever seen. These were my mother's favorite flowers. It was at that point that this thought came to me....."It's a new season and it's time to move one". God has given me so much in my life and now he has given me a "new season". So what does Easter mean to me....it means a new life, a new start and it means LIFE.
April 2, 200917 yr Author KY, thanks for bringing this back up. I started this in 07, and after our 08 and what my wife went thru makes it so even more true on how much he loves us. Its still very slow with folks coming forward in our church. People need to get a Bible and look up the word REPENT and read every verse that has that word in it. I also will get my chocolate marshmellow junk. :ylsuper:
April 3, 200917 yr Easter to me means Christ and His salvation. My family and I go to Mass in the morning and have a family party in the afternoon, I love Easter as I do all other Holy Days.
