Keep telling yourself that....

Two bad years and we see comments like "100% trash", that is priceless.

Double digit losses 5 out of the last 8 years.

Out in the round of 32, 4 of the last 8 years and 3 of the last 4 years.

IMO it's more than 2 bad years.

What about next year? Where was Tubby leading the program? Keep telling yourself it was going to get better when it was obviously heading the wrong way. Read the post again because you are implying that I called the program 100% trash. Right now it's only 50% trash (see the 2007-2008 freshman and juniors). With Morris gone how was Tubby ball going to look next year? No center, no PF, and no PG........... That sound promising to you?

Bad is relative. Next year will be bad. Bad enough that people will be wishing for a 23-10 season.

I agree the cupboards are pretty bare. Unless the next coach brings in some players with him I'm thinking 15-15 next year.

But we can rebuild it. We have the technology. They will be stronger and faster than ever before.

23-10 would have been good this year. :thumb:

Did any of you guys read the UL message boards early in the season? There were a very larger percentage wanting to fire Pitino this year.

Selective memory!

I'm a self proclaimed hater of UK's Eighteen Percenters. I was a big fan of Tubby Smith, and I always cheer for UK football, since I helped protect their star (Keenan Burton) in high school.

Get it in order before you label me anything.

This off the topic but I predict Burton will make someone's all-American team this season.

I still like Tubby.

But I think the change is in the best interest of everyone.

IF Morris stayed...Tubby had something to work with next year.

Tubby could have had better seasons coming.

But his stats can be used for or against him.

Elite 8's, sweet 16's, SEC championships vs. double digit loss seasons, no SEC championship games lately, Swept by 3 of the SEC East side teams.

Vandy and Florida swept them, who was the third????

Barely something though and nobody else inside unless PP was coming. Plus Morris was leaving regardless IMO. He got a multi-year and that's all he needed to leave.

Isn't Vandy and Florida bad enough??

IMO Tubby walked into the worst situation any coach at a major University can walk into...the cupboard being full. There really was nowhere to go but down from there. It didn't matter what he did thereafter, anything other than a final four appearance was unnacceptable to the "18%". Whoever takes over will NOT have that problem, but any fan of Ky. with anything upstairs better understand that at LEAST the next 2 years are going to be a rebuiding process.

My only problem with Tubby was that all he had to do was RELOAD.Now someone else has to REBUILD.

When Tubby arrived at UK in the fall of 1997 he inherited a team that was very talented, and he did well with that talent.

I have always said the man CAN coach. But no matter if it's John Wooden, Adolph Rupp, or any other number of great coaches, if you can't bring in the talent it's going to be difficult to win. And Tubby wasn't bringing in the talent in recent years at a level that was acceptable. Guys like Hansbourgh, Wright, Young, and Durrant considered the Cats, but decided to go elsewhere. Maybe it was his assistants fault, maybe his style of play, but for whatever reason top recruits have not been overly interested in Kentucky. And now the next coach is inheriting a major rebuilding problem....something Tubby didn't have to worry about in the fall of '97.

Let's face it. Tubby just didn't get the job done in recent years. His early years were his glory years when he inherited Pitino's players.

His failure to adapt, and failure to recruit the top players (by his own admission he hates recruiting !) was not up to standards for the highest paid college basketball coaching job in America. We're not talking mid-range or good paid coaches jobs --- we're paying him the most and he had ten great years on the UK gravy train and took plenty of lettuce out the door with him when he left.

Furthermore, he walked directly into a fat paying job of some 1.4 mil per year, so who in the world was unfair to the Tub !!? He took the cash and left us with the mess to clean up.

Tubby's reported salary at UK was just over 2M per year...Thats far from the highest paid...Roy Williams, Tom Izzo, Coach K and a few others exceed his UK salary....

I don't mind hearing Dicky V call a game because he does bring a level of excitement to it... But as an analyst away from color commentary, he's trash. I've always felt that way...
