I think it depends on if the Juniors leave. If they leave I say we will land him. If they win a NC I don't think it would make a difference.

IMO I think it comes down to the junior class as well. If Noah, Brewer, Horford and Green are all going to stay, no way does Billy D leave.

 

Why would he? He gets a bonus for every national championship he wins, plus that's one more milestone to chalk up on his resume. If Florida wins the national championship this year, that will make it even harder for UK to land him.

Whatever we do it has to take place no later than Monday night. April 11 is the deadline and that leaves very little time to sign some players to make next year respectable (i.e PP and JL). Several years success or failure depends on this. I believe a lot of people realize this and something is already in the works or we would see much more panic in the UK front office than we do now. :thumb:

Help. What else does he have to prove at Florida?? Why not go to the biggest basketball house in college basketball and build a new legacy there.

3 in a row, first guy since Wooden, It would not seem possible to mention Donavons name in the same breath as Wooden. But if he wins it this year and stays thats what all the hype will be. But I still think Billy D will come, if not its gonna be Pitino, Ricky P has to much pride to ask for the job. If UK aproaches him if Donavon turns the job down he will be the next coach.

UK is already poised to mortgage Rupp to get him. He can't go any higher with UK.

 

With Florida, there's more money available for them to make the offer. The question is about will. You have to think being the first team to repeat in 15 years would help that will along.

 

I don't really think it matters either way...If this is UKs prime target, they'll make a great offer, Florida may counter, but, no way are they going to offer him 4-5M a year and then Urban Meyer has to get that and much more. Face it, football is the bread winner in Florida, not basketball and when your bread winner is bringing in the dough, your not going to throw all your revenue away on these type price tags. Now, if Donovan is not all about the money and happy where he's at, then he may decline UKs offer and take less to stay where he's happy....

I really don't think that the money is the issue. He can get as much as he wants or needs basically anywhere, and it's not like he is having a hard time paying bills anyway. I think it comes down to building a dynasty or taking one over. He has been quoted to saying this is a "dream job," and many other coaches feel the same way. I think it depends on how he feels about leaving the University of Florida for the University of Kentucky.

The U.K. legacy was already at U.K. , Pitino just revived it after the "Eddie's bar & grill" show. This is one thing that gets me about a lot of these post about Pitino / U.K., Some think that Rick Pitino built the U.K. tradition when in reality he was just a small part of it. I guess a lot aren't old enough to know that there was basketball before tricky Ricky. (Great coach, Yes.............He did not invent the game ).

So eventhough I try to cheer for the SEC teams whenever Kentucky is out of it, should I start be rooting for UCLA(which I hope I dont have to) to land Billy D??

I don't think it matters either way if he wins it again or not. He will get paid big-time, with the school who he signs with.

I think people keep saying this because of ULs football coach. Petrino said he wasnt going anywhere, and then all of a sudden he is in Atlanta. Just because people say they are staying doesnt mean they will. I dont think we will get Pitino either way though, I think we will get Billy D.

I just hope he loses in the finals, because it probably would give him even a little bit more fire inside when he comes here to UK because he would be coming off a tough loss. Instead of coming here on top of the world, and possibly maybe not being quite as motivated as he could be considering he just won two straight titles...
