I wasn't either, but TrueBlueSV and I both went to Shelby Valley back in the day and so we both know people that were there and they all said it was very lopsided. I wouldn't post unless I heard from someone that was there firsthand.

 

I understand where you are coming from. It just seems to me that every game won and lost the team who loses blames it on the refs. I just really dont see why the refs could have cared less who won this game.

 

I myself wouldnt make a statement such as "MVP of the game...The Three Officals that called it" unless I witnessed it with my own eyes.

I wasn't at this game so I don't know. But yes refs have been known to still a many a high school game. If you watch basketball in eastern Kentucky you should be used to this.

 

Ive watched ball in Eastern KY, and I will say, officating is shaky at best in our part of the state. Arent these the best officals the state has to offer though ? Arent they out of region Officals ? My point is : Why would the officals care who won this game ?

I thought Bo Roaden from Corbin made 20 free throws in a state tournement game in 1991. If I remember correctly, it was against Knott Co Central in the opening round.

I am only going by what the radio announcers said on the air. I cannot access the KHSAA state tourney records to double-check. :thumb:

I think officials many times get wrapped up in the atmosphere of Rupp Arena and the Sweet 16. The fans pick up the underdog team. The fans are cheering every call that goes against the game favorite. The next thing you know the officials are giving the underdog a few calls. Officials are human too. They like to hear the fans cheer for their calls instead of boo them.

 

In regular season games politics are a huge part of officiating in Kentucky High School. There is a lot of compitition for which officials get the biggest games. If the assigning secretary openly dislikes a coach. Some officials are not above "sticking it to" the coach to get in a little better with the assigning secretary and therefore get better games. I have been told by an official that this happens a lot in one particular case. Since he told me this I have noticed this coach can't catch a break in big games.

I understand where you're coming from also. I agree about it but I don't really take sides on high school games, I give credit where it's due and I congrat Elliott on the win because they had to make the shots and the free throws to win but the refs didn't help matters much!

Clay County's 7 game State Tournament Win Streak

Scott County's 7 game State Tournemnat win streak

Billy Hicks' 14 Sweet 16 coaching wins

 

I am sure there were other omissions, these are the ones I noticed.

I think most cosidered Elliot the underdog. Even if they weren't it sounded like they were the fan darlings. I'm sure this was because they are such a small school and its their first trip. If JBS plays close to Warren Central, and I don't expect they will, the fans will pick up JBS.

Well I think the final foul count was 31 fouls for Shelby Valley 16 for Elliott. Extermely onesided and when it happens like this something can't be right. Good luck to Elliott and congrats for moving on but I find that this game wasn't called completly fair

Sounds like to me that Valley couldn't play defense without fouling and Elliot knock them down when they had, congrats to Elliot keep it going for the 16th

This game was pretty painful to watch. Are these regions down this year?

 

As for the officiating, they called a fair game. There was a lot of rough/sloppy play and they called it. However, if this crew would have called the Ballard game today then a minimum of 10 guys would have fouled out. It was way more physical then this game yet they let them play.

 

It was a shame to see #21 for Elliot get hurt. He was the second best player on the floor behind #4 for Elliot.
