March 21, 200719 yr Looks like the end of the road in Houston for David Carr... Here's the link Houston gets Schaub, the team's swap first round picks, meaning Houston will drop down to #10 and Atlanta will move up to #8 this year...Atlanta will also receive Houston's second round picks in 2007 and 2008. The traid is contingent upon Houston reaching a contract agreement with Schaub, so it's basically a done deal. What do you think? It looks like a good deal for the Falcons, IMO...they move up in this year's draft and get two second round picks...if they're going to stick with Vick, I think this is the route to go. I think it's a better decision to cash in on Schaub while is stock is high if they aren't going to start him, and this looks like a pretty sweet deal for a backup, IMO. As for the Texans...I don't know. I like Schaub, but it looks like to me they gave up an awful lot to get him, but that's just me.
March 21, 200719 yr That's a great deal for Houston and Atlanta is in serious trouble if Vick doesn't get any better with the new coach. ALTHOUGH Carr has done fairly well with an awful offensive line. Schaub will start eventually, so this could be the beginning of the end for Carr in Houston.
March 21, 200719 yr What a bad 11 months for the Texans. I like Schaub a lot but I feel he's right on par with the talent level of Carr and they gave up a lot to get him. I wonder if teams will look to trade for Carr or just wait for him to be cut. Great move for Petrino and Atlanta and another blunder for the Texans...
March 21, 200719 yr Petrino is putting all his eggs in one basket, for his sake he better hope it works. But to get that much value out of a back-up on your team is a good move.

I wonder if teams will look to trade for Carr or just wait for him to be cut. Great move for Petrino and Atlanta and another blunder for the Texans... That's pretty much how I saw it. It's not that getting Schaub was a bad move, but moving down 2 spots in this year's draft, plus giving up a second rounder this year and next...moving down and giving away draft picks doesn't seem like the ideal blueprint for building a team. The Texans are a disaster... If they were going to make this move, I think they'd have been better served to shop Carr and try to trade him first and see if they could get a little value for him...now, as you hinted at, what value he might have had has been decreased further because teams now no he isn't their guy anymore. I really like this move for Atlanta though...if Vick and Petrino click, and they hit the mark with the extra draft picks, they could be looking really good in two or three years...
March 21, 200719 yr Author One more thing about the Texans...it doesn't matter how good Schaub is. He's still going to be playing behind the same o-line that Carr did. That's not even mentioning their other weaknesses and areas of need...and now it's going to be harder to address those needs minus a second round pick for two years. With the depth and quality of drafts these days, second rounders are pretty high value, IMO. Plus, considering how pitiful the Texans are, those second round picks Atlanta got are very likely going to be early second rounders (top 40 is probable)...so this year they're looking at the #8 pick, plus two early second rounders and next year they'll have their own first round and second round picks and another early second rounder courtesy of the Texans.

March 21, 200719 yr :thumb: I think people are misreading Petrino, here. I think you're right. By getting rid of Schaub he shows a committment to Vick and puts the onus squarely on him to learn the system and improve. If he continues to fail to improve it will be more likely to force the owners to admit that they were wrong about Vick being a franchise quarterback and give Petrino to build the offense around a player that he chooses. On the other hand if Vick changes his work habits and buys into it then you've got one of the most electric players in professional sports at the trigger of an offense ran by one of the best offensive minds in football. I don't see a lot of negatives in this deal from Petrino's perspective. At least I think that's what you were getting at 02Ram.
March 21, 200719 yr I think Petrino is unloading a talent in Schaub and giving Vick one last year to perform, and that he will jockey for position to draft Brian Brohm next season.
March 22, 200719 yr Very nice for the dirty birds grabbing the 2nd round picks. You can fix a lot of positions quicky like that. I still dont know if Carr is out though.

Houston and Cleveland are two NFL cities that NO quarterback can succeed in. Best of luck to Schaub and nice move for Petrino.
March 22, 200719 yr This trade adds more weight to Vick's shoulders to see if 2007 will be his make or break season....
March 22, 200719 yr I think Schaub has the talent to be a good QB, but Houston will have to improve their offensive line for that to happen.
