Tubby has made it further in the Tourney than Coach K 3 out of last 5 Years

Featured Replies

I'm not defending Tubby by any means, but the facts don't lie.

03': UK- Elite 8, Duke- Sweet 16

04': UK- 2nd Rd, Duke - Final 4

05: UK- Elite 8, Duke- Sweet 16

06': UK- 2nd Rd, Duke- Sweet 16

07': UK- ?, Duke- 1st Rd

The tourney seems to be the only report card for coaches and programs nowadays (fair or unfair), and Tubby has done better than Coach K in recent history.

Yeah but Coach K did make the Final Four in 2004 as you pointed out. If Tubby had made a final four the last 8 years, most of the Tubby bashers wouldn't be around.

Don't kid yourself.....They would still be out in droves....

Thats the truth. I first started hearing Tubby bashing before he even coached his first game for UK. Sadly it had nothing to do with his performance on the bench.

That is true. How sad.

While I don't think it would be quite as bad, I still agree.

He'll never be Pitino and, sadly, that's not good enough for a lot of people. I personally am not a fan of his offensive philosophy. Not enough motion on offense.

This might be the absolute most pointless thread that's ever been on here.

Your offensive philosophy is dictated by the talent on your team. For Morris to be effective, this is the best offensive philosophy for this team.

You could say that about a lot of threads on here that deals with Tubby and UK basketball.

I disagree. Three years ago, UK used the high post to feed the low post. Now they don't. The guards make no cuts, nor do they pick off the ball. When a team averages 66 pts or whatever per game, and go stretches without getting Morris touches, it is not the best offense. It's a slow, stagnant offense. Of cours, Morris compounds it by not fighting for position.

I agree, Tubby is a great defensive coach but the offense is a bore. There is not enough ball movement or movement without the ball. You hardly ever see UK run a set for a quick hitter.

I agree, but there is one thing I would like to say...I bet coach K hasn't been quoted bragging about how much success he and his team has had lately. Tubby has been a pretty good coach at UK but it looks to me like he would take just a little teeny weeny bit if the responsibilty when we lose. He is the best buck-passer I have ever seen. About this time last year he was talking about all these changes that would be in store for this season. The only changes I see is that Rhondo is gone and we have a new strength coach. We're still an average team with 11 losses and an 8th seed. I wonder what changes are coming for next season...Is Bill Kieghtly going to get canned? Tubby may blame him next.

They used the high post because Daniels and Hayes were phenomenol passers. Especially late, they have been going with that offense and trying it out. But you have Thomas, Stephenson, trying to make that pass and they are not close to the same passing level as Hayes and Daniels were.

Remember the horrendous jumper by Thomas in the 1st half from the high post. They were running the high-low set at that time.

Also, watch the other games tonight and the high screen and roll, you will see ran by over 50% of the teams left in the tournament. Florida has a similar option in their offensive game.

You will also see that SAME offense ran by several NBA teams.

Xavier ran the high screen and roll over and over again. Here's an idea, and I know that you know basketball much better than I do, but what about using Jasper as the high post passer? He's long enough and definitely a good enough passer. When you add in that he is best at slashing to the basket and has no confidence in his outside shot, it may be the best fit for him. He can be there to help break the press, and you still have Perry on the floor to guard 4s.
