Xavier ran the high screen and roll over and over again. Here's an idea, and I know that you know basketball much better than I do, but what about using Jasper as the high post passer? He's long enough and definitely a good enough passer. When you add in that he is best at slashing to the basket and has no confidence in his outside shot, it may be the best fit for him. He can be there to help break the press, and you still have Perry on the floor to guard 4s.

I haven't figured out why Perry can't run that spot effectively. He seems like he is intelligent enough to make the pass and would be an outside threat that they can't just lay off him as they would Stephenson/Thomas.

 

Jasper made a horrible entry pass to Morris last night that just flew out of bounds. Don't remember Jasper showing a lot of ability to make passes from the perimeter inside. Good at penetration and passing, but haven't remembered a lot of just straight good entry passes.

 

Against a zone, I have ran that spot before with a guard who was a strong shooting threat. You dumped off of her to help the post and she nailed the shot.

 

UK's biggest issue is that they are a HORRIBLE passing team. Not at all like a normal Tubby team. They are just HORRIBLE at passing. And I mean that without a pass being thrown. They get themselves at the wrong angle to throw passes, they miss open players, they have to think too long about whether they are open and what pass to throw and then against a good defensive team that open pass now becomes a steal.

 

Look how many times, Morris catches the entry pass but is in the wrong floor space to make a quick, strong move and puts up an awkward shot that he hits. He hit shots last night with his back to the basket, facing the sidelines, etc.

I believe that Jasper is good enough to make that pass. Even if he isn't, I'd like to prove that he isn't rather than guess at it. Give it a shot and see what happens.

One of the things that we don't know is that he may have been given that shot for awhile in practice and couldn't do it. Shots and things like that occur sometimes in practice, fail miserably and never makes it into a game.

Point well taken. However, I've always been a fan of giving it a shot in the game. I was always a much better game player than practice player. I don't know why, maybe I was thinking too hard at learning concepts. Once the game started, things just happened like second nature.

Understand and agree with that but it is very hard for a coach to pull the trigger on a move in the highest level of competition and game when you have not shown the ability to do it in practice. Coach has to have major confidence in that it is the right move despite what all of the evidence shows him.

I first started hearing Tubby bashing before he even coached his first game for UK. Sadly it had nothing to do with his performance on the bench.

However, the VAST MAJORITY of the fans who are currently dissatisfied with Tubby are dissatisfied because of his PERFORMANCE.

In the real world that I live in Race and that he is not Pitino is a very big reason that alot people do not like Tubby! Just coming from what I have witnessed and Heard.

Funnny that there was a strong anti-Tubby movement in the year's that they went to the Elite 8 and won 30 games. And performance wasn't an issue.

 

The TBers have just jumped onto that bandwagon these past two years.

Yeah but Coach K did make the Final Four in 2004 as you pointed out. If Tubby had made a final four the last 8 years, most of the Tubby bashers wouldn't be around.

Final Four appearance or not they would still be crying to get rid of Tubby.

Rupp's I'm sure was in the mid to late fifties, and maybe another one for Rupp's Runts. Pitino's would have been 93, 96, 97. Joe B.'s would have been 78, and Tubby's 98 and 2004.

Tubby's team has been since 1998, that is an 8 year drought with 3 Elite 8 appearance during that time. Never missed the tournament and never lost in the first round.

 

Also 8 years was 1985-1992 that included two Elite 8 appearances, 2 Sweet 16 losses, on first round loss and three no appearances in the tournament.

 

8 years under Rupp/Hall from 1967 to 74, with 4 reigional final appearances but they only had to win ONE GAME to make the regional final at that time. 2 first round appearances and 2 no appearances.

 

Seems like Tubby's drought is better than they other droughts of equal length.

 

Also, there was a 5-year drought under Hall, 1979-83. During that span they made only one Elite 8 appearance and lost their first game of the tourney twice.
