March 2, 200719 yr It's never been an issue for me. Don't listen to whispers. Its a non issue to me as well. But its more like screams not whispers. I know quite a few people who from day 1 have not liked Tubby. There is only one reason for their dislike. It truly is shameful but it is a factor.

He didn't even open the job, he hired Smith immediately! The problem is that some will never accept Coach Smith fully b/c of the race card. Sure, its probably an issue for 2% of fans out there, but to claim RACE is the reason, and not, oh... say... being FOURTH in the SEC EAST and UNRANKED for basically two years is ridiculous. What about black people who think its time for Tubby to go? I know a few of them. Are they racist too?

It's sad, but it's the truth.

Then, not getting the talent that the fans had become accustomed to and losing 10+ games a year killed his credibility with a lot of fans. Take into account the fact that UK runs the most a slow, overdribbling offense, and you see why many fans are getting disgusted. I know for a fact that some fans do not like Tubby b/c he is black, one new UofL convert told my brothers and I just as much outside of the KY High School Sweet 16. However, after 8 years of coaching, I believe that is an irrelevant reason for his dismissal. This is a job performance issue.

Every African American person I have talked to feel that race is a Issue on how alot of white people feel about Tubby.I have heard it myself from white people that they do not like Tubby because he is Black and he doesn't play enough white Players. I try to distant myself from these people.

I agree. MOST fans are upset with the win/loss record. That does not make race an irrelevant issue however.
March 2, 200719 yr Race is no irrelevant and is probably prevalent in some areas, but I have yet to talk to one person that ever made that complaint. I do believe there would be a few that would hate Tubby regardless of whether UK had gone undefeated and won national championships for the last 10 years.
