Im not talking about a ton of people that go to a small college in Indiana.Im talking about the Majority of People that live in the State of Indiana.

 

I'm telling you that people in Indiana were tired of getting bounced in the second round. They wanted Steve Alford to take over for Bobby Knight. Knight could never be fired for the same reason that Joe Paterno can't be at Penn St. They gave too much to the university. However, IU was slipping during Knights final years and IU fans saw red. It is eerily similar to UK fans sentiments. Now, Tubby doesn't have the emotional baggage of Knight, so he's not going to get himself fired. On the other hand, he doesn't have that iconic status that Knight had either. Tell me you don't remember all the Steve Alford talk.

I was in South Carolina playing golf the last 5 days. We're sitting on a tee box backed up and the foursome behind us pulls up. The one guy sees my Wildcat head cover and says, "who is the UK fan?" I let him know that I am said person. He proceeds to tell me that he is an avid UK fan but then makes it clear in no uncertain terms that he hates Tubby Smith. Let me assure you that the first thing on that moron's mind wasn't Tubby's lack of Final Four appearances.

 

He was very disappointed that I most assuredly didn't feel the same way he did.

 

It is an underlying reason for a great deal of the dislike towards Tubby. Not the "main" reason, fine, but an underlying reason for many. Sad, sad commentary on a portion of our fan base.

I'm simply saying that a portion of those anti-Tubby UK fans care nothing about his record...or to be more accurate, are only fueled moreso by his record.

I am guessing the word he says and do you think he would have used it if UK was ranked top ten?

Agreed and I've heard the comments, but I don't think they are the cause I think they are being used more because UK isn't winning. I don't think many UK fans root against Tubby because he's black.
