February 28, 200719 yr Everyone is talking about Patterson and Lucas saving us. Everyone remember only three years ago when we had Morris (rated higher than PP) Rondo (Rated higher than Lucas)...ect I have been as frustrated as ever the last two years with UK basketball. Tubby recruited some rolls royces and got pinto's. I think that changes need to be made in the program, but I don't think that Tubby is one of them right now. Everyone wants a faster style of play, but that negates UK's best scorer (Morris). UK and Tubby played faster with Prince, Bogans, Fitch, Daniels ect... We need a point guard and a power forward. We will have a chance of being a lot better when we land those two guys. BTW I see UK going to the finals of the SEC tournament. Then making it to the sweet 16. Not good enough, but a solid finish to this crazy year.
February 28, 200719 yr You're one of the 8-10 I'm talking about...Yeah, I agree the recruiting could improve, but, you're not going to find a better bench coach than Tubby..He's actually recruited pretty well with exception of this years sr and soph class and when 2 of the 4 classes are bad, things like whats happening this year and last are going to happen...Noone likes it but it is cyclable and can change as quickly as it happened..IMO, replacing the head coach isnt the answer...Possibly getting a top notch asst whos well known in the AAU circles, to me, makes more sense... He said there would be major changes in the off-season last year. They fired the S&C coach. Not sure about you, but that ain't major changes. Why isn't that Tubby's fault? It's his responsibility to have top notch assistants. Right? With the money Tubby makes he could personally pay an assistant 75 grand a year. However, I'm sure UK would spring for a couple of top notch recruiters. IMO replacing the assistants would be better than firing the head coach because firing the head coach would hurt the team in the near future. However, (again) Tubby made it pretty clear in doing nothing last off-season that nothing is going to happen this off-season. Why didn't this happen last year? I've always had a problem with OTS's recruiting. I think KY should bring in AT LEAST 1 McDonald's All-American every year, typically more. That has never happened under OTS and won't happen under OTS. It works......

As people like to say that anyone could have coached Tubby's 1998 team to a national championship. It is equally believable that anyone could have coached the 1996 team to a national title to and had the success that Pitino had in the 90's with the assistant's he had. Let them do the player development and listen to the suggestions of a Tubby, Billy D., Herb Sendek, Ralph Willard, Bernadette, etc. Any HC could have done that?:sssh:

I agree that Reggie Hanson isn't Billy Donavan or Tubby Smith and I think it needs to be fixed.....Last year.

And I would add that the TBers are a little offcenter on their anger at Tubby's lack of recruitment. He has done a poor job on recruited young, good assistant coaches that move on to bigger and better things. An assistant at UK should be the best assistant position in college basketball. It would be ideal that a UK assistant has a shelf life at UK for about 3-5 years and then moves on. I think the lack of UK assistant's moving on is a cause of concern.
