I must have missed it. I think he did score on him once in the post but "no contest"? I don't know about that. I'm not saying McDavid is better than Vanhoose before you get all defensive, but I do think McDavid is alot stronger than Vanhoose and I don't think he beat him in the post much if any.

Blue Blazer had no cable last night which also translated to no internet. I each crow this morning and say I was wrong I thought that Ashland would win but Russell got too many second chance points. Ashland never quit they kept battling back, but it wasn't enough. Russell's role players (which I mean that nicely I was a role player on a very good team) stepped up and made some big plays which swung the game in Russell's favor. Ashland's student section was it's usual and it was the best Russell student section in their school's history. Great crowd last night,and I really thought that the final score would have been reversed. Well I'll say it again I was wrong!

 

 

Great post! I thought the game would be decided on the boards and who got more 2nd chance points. I'd like to know exactly how many 2nd chance points Russell had. It seemed as though alot.

I think everybody needs to back off of Onetoya, he makes a good point. Even if it is hard to swallow, Ashland has the greatest tradition of winning since the beginning of keeping stats. The national championship speaks for itself. Each year the regional championship should be decided by all teams playing for the right to face Ashland in the final. Of course the Tomcats will represent the 16th in Lexington no matter the outcome of this game. This would insure the 16th of a chance each year. The rest of us need to be happy that Ashland will allow us to be on the same court with them.

Okay the next 16th Region team to make it to the FINALS of the Sweet 16 can boost.....And that's been 10 years with Ashland....

 

When is the last time you thought Ashland wouldn't advance???? I know one I played on that team Coached by Jeff Hall....

Breedan was the coach of that 96' team and nobody thought they would advance to the finals.

Last night in the parking lot we stated that Russell got alot of offensive rebounds the on the radio we heard that Russell had 13 offensive rebounds. Russell is too talented a ball team to give them that many multiple shot possesions. I was really shocked last night watching the game. Wilcox hit 3 big 3's in the first half. He seemed to spark Ashland ,but they never could grab the lead and put pressure on Russell. Anyway it was a good high school game with a TREMENDOUS atmosphere. Both student sections get props for cheering hard, acting respectful, and giving the players and coaches of this game some very special memories. Ashland senior players will hurt a little while but your lives will move on to bigger and better things and you will always have that great memory of what the Anderson Gymnasium was like on your Senior Night. You got to play in one of the greatest atmospheres in high school basketball in the greatest basketball state in a program that has national prominence. WOW!!! Not to mention on T.V. ,there are guys playing in college who don't get that enviroment or T.V. coverage!

He's had more than that in his career but the 3 straight is pretty impressive with the fact that there was some pretty good teams during those years in the 16th, including Ashland having a couple very solid squads. Ashland should have won 1 or those regional titles but had it taken away when Tyler Zornes hit a half court shot to beat them. That was a tremendous game and no doubt one of the best in regional tourney history.

FBALL, your avatar suggests your on the know with the Russell program. What was the deal with the Russell student section having a sign removed from the gym at the game by an Ashland administrator? Nobody seems to be replying to my question about Ashland's district policy on 64th district game bans. How should that have occured since Russell is in the 63rd? Seems to me they were looking for it from the beginning.

 

Russell administration decided to play it safe and take all the signs. Most were

appropriate and even the ones that were leaning toward the edge weren't

that bad. It was probably a precautious move, but they just wanted to

make sure there wasn't anything brewing for after the game. I believe one

sign was taken by Ashland after their student section started chanting "They

have a sign!" After that, there wasn't much trouble.
