Time to stick a fork in Kentucky?

George Mason was 9-1 in their last 10 games before their conference tournament, and their only losses between the end of January and the end of March were to the same team. They were a great example of a team peaking at the right time. Like Louisville in '04 or possibly Georgetown this year (although I know some people that think Georgetown is peaking too soon.)

Wasn't there a stat last year showing a team that went under .500 in the last 10 had never made the FF? Or was it never won the title???

I just dont know if our Juniors have the mind-set to do it.

They're the "Oh-Fers" for a reason. :p;)

I feel like this team is the most uncoachable team that I've ever seen play.

Tubby signed them. The finger always winds up back on Tubby.

Its HIS basketball team. He picks the players, he runs the practices. He has more resources at his disposal than 99% of coaches, so he has NO excuse.

LRCW, I think we woke up today, with a similar thought. I was extremely disappointed, with initial effort, preparedness and hustle.

I've been a Coach Smith supporter and will continue to be, because he's the UK Coach....but, when a team gives an early lackluster effort, at home like last night early, speaks volumes to as some internal problem.

I don't know, disappointed in the effort.

I have supported Tubby an defended him on here many, many times and will continue in my support of him bc he is our(U.K.'s) coach. I also agree that it is a reflection on him when the team, some or all give a less than all out effort like they have the last few games with the exception of the Fla. game. I will say though that imo some of that has to come from within the player themselves. Tubby has always been excellent in all facets of the game with defense and game preparation being on the top of the list. As I have also said, recruiting or lack there has been my only cririsizm of OTS. I do think that this years freshmen class is a very good one and things may be improving on that end of it. Time will tell when we see who/what he brings in the next couple of years. I certainly hope that there are no internal problems with this team. Who knows?, it may be about time for Tubby to hang it up. If so I don't think for one minute that it is bc that he "forgot how to coach" rather maybe that he cannot motivate as well as he used to. Kids today are different but Tubby's knowledge of the game or how to coach is still imo as good as it gets. OTS is a class individual and a great b.b. coach, ambassador of college b.b. and representative of the University of Kentucky. "If" he does go I will wish him luck in whatever he does in the future and will suppoprt whoever the new coach may be. :thumb:

Even if Tubby leaves in the next few years, he won't be 'hanging it up.' There are MANY high profile college jobs that would beg to have him on the bench, not to mention the NBA opportunities.

If you, as a player at this level, need the coach to motivate you to play hard, you have no buisness being at this level, no matter your talent.

All things that deal with lack of effort, IMO lie directly on the players shoulders. If players don't respond to the coach, it is still IMO the responsibility of the players to self motivate.

I may have mis quoted my "hanging it up" comment, I meant either retire or move on. I 100% agree that practically any college in the country would be more than happy to have him. Imo he is one of the best. As for the NBA I belive that he would have offers there also, I just don't keep up with the NBA much.

My assessment of the whole situation is a little different...The entire team had wide open easy layups in the 1st half and couldn't make a shot...IMO, this stems from the 3 game losing streak and loss of confidence...Once they came back and started hitting a few shots, the whole atmosphere changed...I give LSUs length and shotblocking ability a little of the credit, as well...But, with that said, here's where I think the Cats have a problem:

1) Jasper at the point....he doesn't even hint he's going to take a shot, so, it's basically a 4 on 5 game, which is tough on any team....he needs to either improve his shot or take a seat...

2) Morris on the inside...He's a 1 man show down low and until someone can prove they are capable of putting the ball in the basket, he'll continue to get doubled down low and when Jasper is in, tripled because of his man sagging back to the inside...

3) Meeks must play...UK struggles to score because they only have Morris, Crawford and Bradley who are capable of it...IMO, go small and play Meeks and Crawford together on the wings and Bradley at the point...

4) Bradley at the point...Until he starts to think penetrate and dish 1st, instead of launching outside 3's and constant dribbling, the Cats will suffer, but, even with his flaws, he's a better point than Jasper, at this point.

5) Woo needs to play more...Of all the players coming off the bench, Woo gives them the most productive minutes down low and shows the most desire and hustle...I think with him and Morris in the game at the same time, it could cause some serios mismatches, but, you rarely ever see the 2 at once...

I'd like to see UKs lineup like this:

Bradley - PG

Meeks - 2G

Crawford - SF

Morris - PF

Woo - C

I've been thinking that lineup but with Thomas instead of Woo. I'd like to see Tubby try them both though.

Woo shouldn't be playing. Stevenson is ahead of him and could be a bigger force.

Stevenson still has a WHOLE LOT to work on. He is going to be a good one, but he doesn't rebound that great because he CANT box out. I know there were a few times yesterday that the LSU guys were just pushing him right out of the lane, and they didn't even have their best guy playing. The 4 spot is the weak spot on this team no matter who you put in there...

And Woo doesn't?

And I didn't say he did. I belive I said no matter who you put in there it is the weak spot of the team and its not going to make anything better. You however said Stevenson could be a bigger force, and well he has shown nothing when he has played that he could be this season...

When I said a bigger force, I didn't mean bigger like nationally, just bigger than Woo.
