Time to stick a fork in Kentucky?

Featured Replies

And I didn't say he did. I belive I said no matter who you put in there it is the weak spot of the team and its not going to make anything better. You however said Stevenson could be a bigger force, and well he has shown nothing when he has played that he could be this season...

My theory is this..... Bobby Perry and Woo will NEVER EVER contribute. At some point Stevenson may. Why not give him all the minutes he can?

I have supported Tubby an defended him on here many, many times and will continue in my support of him bc he is our(U.K.'s) coach. I also agree that it is a reflection on him when the team, some or all give a less than all out effort like they have the last few games with the exception of the Fla. game. I will say though that imo some of that has to come from within the player themselves. Tubby has always been excellent in all facets of the game with defense and game preparation being on the top of the list. As I have also said, recruiting or lack there has been my only cririsizm of OTS. I do think that this years freshmen class is a very good one and things may be improving on that end of it. Time will tell when we see who/what he brings in the next couple of years. I certainly hope that there are no internal problems with this team. Who knows?, it may be about time for Tubby to hang it up. If so I don't think for one minute that it is bc that he "forgot how to coach" rather maybe that he cannot motivate as well as he used to. Kids today are different but Tubby's knowledge of the game or how to coach is still imo as good as it gets. OTS is a class individual and a great b.b. coach, ambassador of college b.b. and representative of the University of Kentucky. "If" he does go I will wish him luck in whatever he does in the future and will suppoprt whoever the new coach may be. :thumb:

:thumb: Well said Oldrambler!!!!

I know that I for one have been very critical of Smith's handling of the program. With that said I have always maintained that Smith is a fine ambassador of the University and State of Kentucky.

LRCW knows that I am a lifetime diehard UK fan. It pains me to see what has happend over the past few years. I said early last year the the wheels were coming off. All you had to do was take a close look at the roster to see that this decline was unavoidable.

I agree 100% that a change would be best for all involved and would probably benefit Smith more than anyone.

This article hits the nail on the head on all points - and I've always liked Tubby. I still like him, just think he's not the best fit for the program at this point.

LRCW I have to say again that this is the first thread talking about Tubby with actual respectful discussion on it from both sides of the issue. No senseless bashing, just good points made and good discussion. I can respect ones that put their "pros and cons" on OTS in a sensible way. I started not to even read this thread let alone post on it just bc of all the others that have went directy to bashing and not respecting others opinions. This one has, :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: to everyone that posted their feelings on this and in the way it was done.

Obviously a terrible sign when our fresh/sophs know they are better then our juniors/seniors. Tubby refuses to adapt to a fast pace offensive. Kids today wanna be flashy and run. Times have changed. 70% of the big recruits we lose, just don't wanna play in this offense.

Tulsa or Georgia talent does NOT work at Kentucky. Its that simple.

UK probably going into the tourney at a 8 or 9 seed two years in a row.. is just.. embaressing

If the tournament started today we would not be an 8 or a 9 seed. However depending how we finish out we could move down to a 8 or a 9 seed...

Even if Tubby leaves in the next few years, he won't be 'hanging it up.' There are MANY high profile college jobs that would beg to have him on the bench, not to mention the NBA opportunities.

Assuming that he wants to keep coaching.

Say if he was to retire or something after this year, I could see him maybe sitting out a year or two at the most. But I definitely think he would be back coaching somewhere, because there would be alot of schools who would LOVE to have him as coach...

I agree.

Stevenson will be a pretty big factor by the time he's done at UK. He has the skills and athletic ability, all he lacks is strength and experience.

That all depends on his line of thinking, he has already won a National Championship with one of the most prestigious basketball programs in the history of the game. Going to another college may feel like a step down for him. Comparable to why you never see ex-presidents run for Vice President or any other such office.

I've always been a fan of Tubby...but I have said for a while that it would be in both's best interests for Orlando to move on.

Bobby Perry sure contributed in the tourney last year... but I do see your point.

I'm beginning to lean towards this category.
