February 20, 200719 yr I know its a longshot, but what if one of these kids decides they love college and stays, maybe even graduates. Better chance of it happening now than if they went straight to the pros.
February 21, 200719 yr If I remember correctly I thought that I had heard that both Oden and Durant were 3.0 GPA students. I know he was just using Durant as an example but I believe Knight hit the nail on the head with this one.

Think about all the guys that were stealing money from the NBA for a few years before they produced, or a few that never got drafted but lost their college eligibity. I would rather two or three Durents and Odens get in then lose the many kids that need at least a year or two in college. First it makes the college game better with the raw talent, and second it improves the NBA by getting the players there when they are ready. That is just my opinion. Also I think that a year in College will help these guys grow up alittle outside of their highschool group of friends and family before we make them instant millionaires.

February 21, 200719 yr It's no different than James White last year and has been going on for a LONG time. So what that the FROSH are now in the mix. Durant and Oden are flawless from all I know. They are in class, understand the APR and are willing to respect the deal with the devil in regards to the cash their AAU programs received. Both will finish in good standing before they jump, and there is no APR hit for that. Knight is speaking the ugly truth as usual, but teams working the APR is just the newest fad... At least he didn't blatantly call someone a moron on the subject...yet... Love Coach Knight...
February 21, 200719 yr There were freshman doing the same last year. There were sophomores doing the same last year. Nothing has changed other than you add a few more freshman to the list while retaining a larger number that you didn't have because they declared and were not selected. Any coincidence Knight feels this way because Durant is now at Texas and next year Beasley is at K State? It's short sighted and more than a little whiney... Got to agree. Sour grapes all the way.
February 21, 200719 yr While some may say that Coach Knight is whining, he is the only coach to step up and speak out about his concern for the kids. On Mike and Mike this morning, they pointed out that this rule was not for the benefit of the NCAA, but for the NBA. While it may be accomplishing the goal for the NBA, it may be doing the NCAA a disservice.
February 21, 200719 yr The NBA gets more prepared/coachable young men who are closer to LEGAL age while on the road. BIG BIG upside. The NCAA gets great players, games, ticket sales and the balancing equation of making the final four if a school can recruit a 1st round pick. Texas to the final four???? - only with Durant. USC to the final four???? - only with OJ. Besides...Freshman are skipping classes to start with! :ylsuper: No way would I go to class if i'm a lock for a 1st round pick. Some suggest a 2 year wait instead of one year. It would uphold the integrity of going to college somewhat and benefit the NBA and NCAA games even more. BUT.......... I just don't agree with telling someone that they CAN'T earn a living doing what they are good. Especially if it were me!! :lol:
