February 20, 200719 yr The new rule that says players must be at least one year removed from high school before entering the NBA is "the worst thing that's happened to college basketball since I've been coaching," says Texas Tech coach Bob Knight. In the Big 12, it might be called the Kevin Durant Rule after the Longhorn freshman who has electrified the entire country and leads the conference in both scoring and rebounding. Instituted last year by the NBA, it means that super-talented players must wait at least a year rather than jumping into the pros right out of high school. "Because now you can have a kid come to school for a year and play basketball and he doesn't even have to go to class," Knight said Monday during the Big 12 coaches call. "He certainly doesn't have to go to class the second semester. I'm not exactly positive about the first semester. But he would not have to attend a single class the second semester to play through the whole second semester of basketball. "That, I think, has a tremendous effect on the integrity of college sports." Knight said he would never have recruited Durant, although he doesn't blame Texas coach Rick Barnes for doing so. "I don't fault those that have, because it's within the rules," Knight said. "But the rules are just ridiculous, the way the thing is set up." "It's just a tremendous disservice, the way that it's structured, to the integrity of college sports." http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2771573 Interesting take... Very interesting. What say you?
February 20, 200719 yr There are definitely going to be consequences, and the rule will continue to change the college game. With that said, I wouldn't be happy with the age limit if I was in the same conference as Kevin Durant either.

With that said, I wouldn't be happy with the age limit if I was in the same conference as Kevin Durant either. But see, Bob Knight does not care that Durant HAD to go to college and play in the big 12. Bob Knight cares that he doesnt HAVE to go to class. He is one guy that truly cares about the Student-Athlete. He will make his players better men, and if my son were offered a scholarship to play for Bob Knight, you better believe he would go there.
February 20, 200719 yr I think Kevin Durant has a sweet set up. Go to class for 1 semester and just ball out an not go to class second semester and then off to the NBA for millions of dollars. Im jealous.
February 20, 200719 yr To be fair to Durant, does anyone know if he is going to class? While what Knight is suggesting may be possible, it may not be what is really going on.
February 20, 200719 yr To be fair to Durant, does anyone know if he is going to class? While what Knight is suggesting may be possible, it may not be what is really going on. He never said he wasn't going to class, he was just using him as an example of somebody who obviously doesn't have to worry/care about their grades whatsoever.

True, but you know that there will be some hotshot stud who does not. And thats what Bob Knight does NOT want to happen. Dont be surprised to see the Juice do this next year.
February 20, 200719 yr Author I really want someone to chime in with some APR talk... I'm not extremely familiar with it and I don't know how much (if any) impact attendance has. Gametime, what rock (or pebble.. in your case ) are you hiding under?
February 20, 200719 yr It's no different than James White last year and has been going on for a LONG time. So what that the FROSH are now in the mix. Durant and Oden are flawless from all I know. They are in class, understand the APR and are willing to respect the deal with the devil in regards to the cash their AAU programs received. Both will finish in good standing before they jump, and there is no APR hit for that. Knight is speaking the ugly truth as usual, but teams working the APR is just the newest fad...
