Not taking into consideration all the extra stuff (contract, etc) what would you do? Keep Smith or replace him?

The only people I'd replace him with are K, Billy or Rick.

I would replace him this very minute, without a doubt. Regardless of contract, media, pressure from special interest groups. He would be out the door tonight.

I am not saying it is my opinion, but if I were the AD, I would have a tough case for trying to oust Coach Smith other than half the seasons being 10 losses and not making a Final Four. When writing everything down on paper and evaluating if Tubby has lowered the program to the point of incompetentcy, he has not... which that leads to coaches being let go, not sub-par seasons in the eyes of fans.

Keep him for another year, he doesn't perform, then you have to look at other options. I still think next year this team is going to be a national championship contender, with one of the nation's best backcourts. Give him one more year, then bash all you want...

I would wait till after the season, but it's time to go in another direction.

I think next years team will be one of the best in the nation, if everyone returns and we land Patterson and possibly Lucas. If Morris is gone and/or we lose Patterson, next season won't be much better.

 

I think the reason he isn't gone now is because of how he is a class-act and represents the school with dignity and pride. It's hard trying to fire someone that does stuff like that, and I think that is why Barnhardt still has him here.

I believe there will be changes on Smith's staff and I'm a UK fan, supporter and therefore, the Coach of UK supporter....

 

With that said, changes in recruiting talent must be made. If that means Assistant Coaches, than sobeit. UK must find, recruit and develop the Forwards, who can both play the #3 and #4. This team lacks the physical toughness in the front court and in rebounding.

 

Perimeter shooting has been inconsistent and is an area of concern. Depth must be addressed in the post. If it takes getting the talent, who is going to commit for 4 years, than start pursuing them and get them to sign. Once they are at UK, then the development must continue and they will certainly be taught, to play defense.

 

Do I keep Coach Smith.....YES and address the need of Recruiting, as one of my primary concerns.

Thing is, Tubby did not foget to coach all of a sudden (even at this juncture we sometimes overdramatize things). I believe most agree the assistants HAVE to change and recruiting has to be more consistent. The addition of Finney has been a great one as UK has brought in more '08 recruits this past season than they ever have. UK has been getting to recruits earlier this season... whether it pays off or not we will see.
