A lot of people want him gone. The supporters have and always will be at KY Tubby or no Tubby.

:thumb: I agree with this statement and would add that the "bashers" will bash anyone that is coaching at U.K.. I am amazed at the amount of major college basketball coaches that we have here on bgp. Even when Pitino was here all you heard was "when is he leaving?". My point is that no matter who is at the helm the bashing will continue. That is just a given, the job at U.K. will draw critisizm no matter who is there. That will never change.

Clearly the time has come. If a change doesn't occur soon it will be a Bill Curry situation all over again. Hopefully, common sense will prevail.

I respectfully disagree at least from my standpoint. I never criticized Pitino during his tenure, I wasn't critical of Smith until it was apparent that the program was slipping, and recently have supported Rich Brooks when it was unpopular to do so.

 

I may not be a college coach but I'm not blind either. The talent level at UK is eroding. Players are unmotivated and undisiplined.

I have to agree with Rickyp on this one. When Pitino was at UK I cannot hardly think of any of my friends that are UK fans that was hard on Pitino and I know I certainly was not. And the first few years that Tubby was coach I was supportive until I saw the ten loss seasons coming at a record pace for the program. We as UK fans are not like other college fans, we expect final four appearances at least every few years and that is a high standard. But it is no different than the expectations of UNC or Duke fans and we should expect at least as much out of Tubby as they do Williams and Coach K. That is why Tubby is paid millions of dollars, not to compete for SEC East titles, but to make final fours and compete for national titles. UK has yet to make it to a final four in this decade and if they don't make one it would be the first time that they have not reached the final four in a decade since the 1930's. Every decade since then UK has made at least one final four. So, unless we as fans lower our standards, Tubby is not reaching the expectations of the fans and I see no problem in bashing someone who has made one final four in 10 seasons. Heck, Pitino made three final fours and missed another by 2.1 seconds in his 8 seasons at Kentucky, maybe that success is why we did not bash him too much.

Ky is down from where it has been in the past. That is acceptable, but they are not even entertaining to watch. I would rather watch OK St. than watch UK lately.

 

About patterson coming to UK. recruits willl go wherever they feel like they can get the most for them. It has nothing to do with the coaches. Very few coaches can recruit on their name alone, Tubby is not one of those guys. He is a very good coach at a very good school but cannot recruit off of his name alone.

 

I personally would like to see a different coach at UK. I wouldnt even like to see Billy D. I would like to see a shoe in Hall of Famer, I know the financial support would be there to bring whoever in? Why not make it happen?

I disagree with the statement that Much of that comes from ...race standpoint. No doubt there is people out there that resort to race but I think race has nothing to do with the percieved downfall of the program. If Tubby is let go there will be many resorting to the race card then to. So I think the race issue is really mute. If he is kept because UK fears the response of firing a minority or If he is fired strictly because of his race, it would be wrong either way. Lets just judge on the direction of the program.

Jim, first let me start out by saying I have the utmost respect for you and your opinion. I was not trying to blow up anything . I have heard the negative criticism also. I guess I bristle also more at the ignorance of some. I was only stating I hope race will not play any part pro or con in any decision on Tubby. Lets base everything on what is best for the future of UK Basketball. If surronding Coach with some recruiting help then I am fine with whatever the powers to be decide. But I firmly believe that something needs to be done to raise the reputation of UK basketball back to an elite program competing for national championships year after year.:thumb:
