Highlands vs. Trotwood

Featured Replies

AT the end of the day, its just football. Technique and awareness can help you avert injury many times. The Birds will be disciplined in these areas and I am quite sure they have no fear of anyone on their schedule. They will be rolling out their own Ice Cream truck this year.

When athletes are flying around at a much greater speed, it takes away from some awareness.

Of course they don't fear anyone, plus Trotwood will not be as good as that Colerain team.

LN doesn't have to worry about that because of his kids' size.

Sweeperboy on the other hand...:D

Uh, if you'll recall, my son his junior year was a whopping 5'11" and weighed about 205 lbs, played the offensive line and was assigned to block Colerain's two very aggressive inside linebackers both of whom, as I recall, got scholarships to Ohio State and both of who were probably bigger than he was. He had a lot of nice collisions with those guys, but he came out just fine. And he was having those collisions every offensive play, unlike running backs, qbs and receivers who only get hit generally when they carry the ball.

Don't misunderstand me: Colerain was a physical team, but let's not turn them into the Steel Curtain. There were some hard hits in the game, but not a lot more than when we play Elder, X, Male or CovCath. I actually think DeSales had the more physically dominating team that year. Colerain, at least on offense, used its speed to run away from us. DeSales on the other hand just ran over us play after play after play that year. And their offensive line was even bigger than Colerain's.

But if you don't like physical play or playing against the big boys, Highlands is not the place for you that's for sure. As for me, I love it and both of my sons love it. My youngest was disappointed in this year's schedule. When he thought we would be adding Colerain, he was excited. Now that Colerain's not a possibility, he's hoping things work out with Trotwood.

Colerain, on the high school level, was close to the Steel Curtain.

It also has to do with a player's build; your sons are definitely built to withstand the rigors of a physical game.

They get it from their mom.:D

She's one tough cookie; that's for sure.

I had a son on the field against Colerain, and him getting hurt didn't cross my mind. No disrespect to Sweep, but I don't think the hits were any more ferocious than any other game. Hudy got his bell rung by a hard hit, but that's the only one I can remember. I also have a son who will be a sophomore on this year's team (and hopefully will be able to get some playing time) and I'm not the least bit concerned about him having to play Trotwood or Colerain for that matter from an injury standpoint. So I guess I'm one that isn't willing to acknowledge it (and I do have a son on the team).

Sophomores usually don't get hurt clapping!!

Let me clear up my comment a little bit. Up to that game against Colerain, I had no problems with Elder or anyone else on Highlands schedule in the past. I am always for better, bigger and tougher competition to better the program in the long run. Heck, the Birds lost to two Ohio teams last year who had no business beating them. I just saw the Colerain game as one that Dale wished he had not scheduled if hindsight was 20/20. Lets be honest with ourselves here, that is a game that should never had been played. Colerain probably was in the top 5 legitimately in the USA that year. I am sure we won't see another caliber team like Colerain in this area for a long time.

As I understand it, we'll know on Tues. if we are to play TM in the Herbie.

Just put out a feeler. I have to leave the office around 5:50 for a dinner meeting (another dang client dinner at Ruby's....life is tough), but if I hear something before I leave, I'll let you know. LN

Had fish. I'm so health conscious.

Haven't heard anything back. They may want to tell the players directly what's going on, as opposed to them reading it on here first. In any event, when I hear something, I'll let you know.

Second time in a row that I've done that. Went to a great steak house in Park City, Utah 10 days ago and had a Caesar Salad. Trying to keep this old ticker ticking I guess. My cardiologist would be so proud.

Sounds like a couple of "fish" stories planted to throw Henry off the "nag" list.....I bet it was steak tar-tar!!!
