BLASPHEMOUS I think not! Have you played Bellefonte in the last year? It was redone. When I played there last fall, I was impressed. I had just gotten back from playing at The Greenbriar in WVa. I still think Bellefonte is a beautiful course and very challenging. Valhalla is nice and impressive - not saying it isn't but unless you've played Bellefonte in the last year IMO you really need to check it out then tell me its blasphemous to put it in as one of the best private courses in Ky.

I have played Bellefonte in the past year. Very recently as a matter of fact. I also know the new pro personally and think he has done a fine job with the changes/upgrades. Bellefonte is, as you said, a beautiful and challenging course. In fact, it can be set up to play VERY difficult. I am not trying to diminish the quality of the course in any way, I just believe the others mentioned, such as Valhalla, are in a totally different league. Take outside factors such as hotel accomodations and accessibilty out of consideration and tell me if you can ever imagine Bellefonte hosting a PGA event let alone a Ryder Cup. Just my opinion, but not in the same league.............

One would think, but I've heard from a few people they think Lake Forest in Louisville is better. Also, Olde Stone out in WKY is a new one that is supposed to give Valhalla a run for its money and is looking to get a tour stop.

 

 

I don't know about Olde Stone but I am gonna go with NO WAY that Lake Forest is better than Valhalla!!!

Big Spring CC is very nice as well as Persimmon Ridge

Can't speak from personal experience, but I would think that Valhalla would be #1. I'm hoping to get to see it during the Ryder Cup in 2008.

 

I played Valhalla four times in the past. Nothing else compares that I have played. Caddies, the course, the holes...it's all nice. Hole no. 11 is the signature, I believe, with a moat around it and it raises up out of the earth. You can fall off it and die it is so high. Beautiful course.

The first time I played it...I shot almost what my fee was to play it...and the fee was GULP...$120.00. Had a headache all night. Even the ball spotters were waiting in the woods when I teed off because they knew my ball was headed that direction. EMBARRASSING.

I agree with you atticus. Valhalla is very nice. And it's #13 that has the "almost island green." Good hole. My favorite hole is #6. I've played it 3 times and have shot the same score each time (80) (once from the tips and twice from the next tee up).

However, IMO Lake Forest is right there with Valhalla. At least it was when the State Am was held there a few years ago. That was the last time I played it. It's just a different type of golf course than Valhalla.

I can't wait to play Olde Stone. I've heard it's UNREAL!

Hard to beat Valhalla!! Up north Triple Crown is outstanding and can be set up very tough, especially from the tips with a little wind!! Traditions isn't as hard, but is always in great condition!! I really like Persimmon Ridge in Louisville also, and Paducah CC can be a bear with some weather like they had at the HS State tourney two years ago!!

I've always wanted to play Big Spring but have never had the chance.

Persimmon Ridge is the hardest golf course I've ever played. The greens there are just plain STUPID! They take away from a great layout in my opinion.
