Zane Johnson - Mr. Football Conversation

Featured Replies

Zane is on pace to be all time passing leader in every category at Trinity.

Zane has the opportunity to be the only QB in KHSAA history to win 4 state Titles as the starter.

Zane has opportunity to break state record for consecutive games with a TD pass. Already has Trinity Record.

Zane has competed against 21 D1 defenders this season, several other candidates, have faced ZERO.

Heaviest concentration of any year that I can remember of top level contenders, but he is my vote.

I am afraid his Buffalo commitment may cost him.

I don't disagree. I know Louisville has offered and has been begging him to flip, but the kid knows what he wants. He has a chance to be one of the only freshman in the country starting next year in college football.

What he has done over 4 years, with the consistency of play, has never been done in KY football history...EVER. And it may never be done again.

Louisville offered him? PWO or scholarship?

I'm not so sure on that anymore. Maybe in past years when the media voted on it, but with it being the coaches now, I don't know if it matters as much. Just in the last few years, Cam Hergott won it in 2020 when he only had a PWO offer from Akron of note, Travis Egan won it 2022 when he only had 2-D2 offers at the time and Daniel Thomas won it the following year with no real offers at the time I believe and wound up playing D2 in Virginia. I think Zane has a good chance regardless and there's no denying what he has accomplished in his high school career.

Has the KHSAA updated the all time stats anywhere yet? Or is it still just on the old website where the all time stats just still from 2021 and earlier?

As I know Cam O'Hara for his career threw for 11,227 yards, and had 146 career touchdown passes.

What he has done has been absolutely amazing. However, just to hit on the consistency of play has never been done before in KY football history ever. Cam O'Hara for Cooper also started all 4 years, and was consistent the whole time too and ended up with 11,127 yards passing and 146 career touchdown passes for his career.

Zane is absolutely unbelievable, and I think is going to do a great job in college too. Just hitting on we have seen others start all 4 years and do great things too.

Zane has also put up these stats against insane strength of schedule. No other Mr. Football candidate has faced anywhere near the schedule he has faced.

Agreed, and is why I think he should win it. Even though there are a lot of great candidates this year

Please look over at the most recent Mr Football topic section, I have broken down the last 8 years of QB stats. I compare the top 3 QBs. His stats have not been the best. He has never led any major QB stat. But he is consistent . I agree that Zane has had the hardest four year schedule of any QB, that I can remember. He also has been surrounded by some great team mates, which causes his team not rely on him to throwing 6-8 TDs, like other QBs. He does what his team needs him to do to win; which he does very very well. He is the only one of the QBs that has won a state championship. With a very good chance to win his fourth.

I am just the messenger with that post.

So if you put Zane on the top "stat" guys teams. Does he do the same numbers? And vice versa?

If Zane went to Collins, CAL, or Owensboro Catholic he would hold every stat in ky football history. You take any of the other QBs and replace Zane, they couldn't replicate what he has done, or if they could why hasn't it EVER been done?

People are so quick to compare stats in HS football when there is NOTHING to compare, especially when they play Fort Knox, Central Hardin, and Hnery Clay.

Zane has had consistent and fairly dominant receivers and backs around him as well. And a solid offensive line. So the competition is better but so is the supporting cast is also way stronger. It's tough to compare apples and oranges. Each of the kids are pretty impressive.

I don't know if they consider an entire career when selecting Mr. Football or if they just look at who had the best current season.
