Zane has had consistent and fairly dominant receivers and backs around him as well. And a solid offensive line. So the competition is better but so is the supporting cast is also way stronger. It's tough to compare apples and oranges. Each of the kids are pretty impressive.

He plays with great kids, all hard working, hard nosed.

He hasn't had 1 lineman that has played D1, has one this year committed to Howard.

Consistent WR's, last 2 years yes. Sophomore season they had 26 dropped TOUCHDOWNS.

I am not comparing any 1 thing. Have watched them all live, train, film. 2 total different caliber of players.

Nate Shields who graduated from the offensive line last year is playing D-1 at Lafayette and was Allstate 3 straight years. Nate is one of the best OL guys who has ever played at Trinity based on his high school performance. I think 10-12 of Zane's teammates have D-1 this years.

No other kids supporting cast comes close.

Nate is unequivocally one of the best high school lineman I have ever seen play. I was just referring to FBS players. Stivers (WKU),, backup RB Taylor, and freshman lineman Stivers (who has only played 50% or less of the reps) are the only three offensive players with FBS offers.

By all means they are loaded, talented and fun to watch. Never was anything I said to take away from those guys.

Nate Shields didn't go D1?

I don't know if they consider an entire career when selecting Mr. Football or if they just look at who had the best current season.

"They" can consider whatever they want to consider.

He went to Lafayette, which is D1 FCS. I was looking up FBS, and over looked him. He most definitely was a dog!

Early August 2023, freshman QB Zane Johnson (classes have not even begun for his freshman year at Trinity) walks onto the scrimmage field at Springfield HS (Ohio) and moves the Rocks offense up and down the field against a Springfield defense coming off a state runner up finish and a defense that had simply dominated the Trinity offense for the first portion of the scrimmage. Anyone there that day KNEW this kid was going to be a special high school QB.

But, maybe because he is not the biggest, fastest or quickest dude around, many folks, even quite a few Rock fans, always seem to me to want to minimize his impact. One BGP’er even implied this past summer that Zane may not even be one of the best QBs in Trinity history.

The 3 state championships (maybe 4), the throwing %, the TD to interception ratio, the blowout wins over high quality teams no other school in Kentucky even has the gumption to schedule, tell me the impact that Zane makes.

In my mind, whether or not Zane is named Mr. Football will have no bearing on the incredible impact he has made (and continues to make) for Trinity Football. Nor will it affect my POV that he will go down as one of very best high school QBs in KHSAA history.

Lafayette is Division 1 FCS

No question he’s a great player.

My point was it’s a tough call between the candidates because it’s not apples to apples.

Trinity plays a brutal schedule but is loaded with talent. Versus Kade Goodin, much easier schedule but much less talented surrounding cast. Driver is between those two on talent and schedule.

So if you put Zane on the top "stat" guys teams. Does he do the same numbers? And vice versa?

If Zane went to Collins, CAL, or Owensboro Catholic he would hold every stat in ky football history. You take any of the other QBs and replace Zane, they couldn't replicate what he has done, or if they could why hasn't it EVER been done?

People are so quick to compare stats in HS football when there is NOTHING to compare, especially when they play Fort Knox, Central Hardin, and Hnery Clay.

You have zero idea if those QB's at Collins, CAL, Owensboro Catholic could or couldn't replicate what he has done. Like it or not if you take Zane off of Trinity these last 4 years, Trinity probably still wins State all 4 years, especially with the QB's you mentioned.

It is all good and great to talk up your guy, because Zane definitely deserves to be talked up, he is great! What he and Trinity have done especially these last couple of years is so dang impressive. However, you are putting down some pretty darn good QB's in their own right.

Kade Gooden would have lit it up at Trinity too! And he is a threat to run every time. That’s why it’s hard to pick this one.

Zane appears to me to be an outstanding traditional high school QB. Solid arm, good decision maker and very dependable to rarely makes mistakes. His speed might be a little less than what will force college DC’s to have sleepless nights, but a super career candidate for Mr. Football.
