Seems a bit early to quit due to offensive performance in Game 1. How many good teams in the history of football have had a less than stellar Game 1 offensive performance? Answer: Many. How about staying the course, working hard, and maybe even being the reason things improve?

We had a standing rule in my house for sports: you can't quit during the season. If things don't go your way, tough it out for that season. Don't give up on your teammates. If you want to give it up after the season and not play next year, fine. Parents have gotten soft on this one. My daughter wanted to quit middle school band in the middle of the year so bad. She begged and begged. I made her stick it out. She is now a functioning adult, and she later thanked me for it.

Great rule and parenting.

Last year Owensboro got smoked in its first two games of the season to X and CAL. That did not stop them, they learned and grew throughout the year. This lead them to their first state title in 30 years! Just have to stick it out and find a way to push through and you'll always come out better than before.

Its possible many players are frustrated at St X that no changes are being made and no one else is getting a chance to see if they could do better. The offensive lack of performance wasn't new in the Owensboro game. It was obvious against Ballard and Douglas. And when people try to blame it on a supposed lack of talent that generally doesn't make the kids feel better about the situation.

X needs to win tonight. If guys aren't getting it done some one else needs a shot. The offense really can't do a lot worse than it has so far.

The Tigers may end up great. They may end up terrible. We don't know. It takes a while. Bobby Redman referred to the first two games as scrimmages. He won a game or two. So he must have known what he was talking about.

To be clear, I don't think the players are panicking. I think they are getting angry. Landis commented that last week was "good'! (See above) The players don't think so. It's not instant gratification, it's why are guys who can play not getting an opportunity when the product on the field is just plain bad. They don't care what somebody did someplace else. They see guys they have played with for 3-4 years who could do better and aren't getting a shot to show it. Landis said in the preseason the QB race was close. So why not try some one else after the first 2 interceptions? The current situation clearly has not been working.

Einstein said "insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.” He was a pretty bright guy.

I had a brief discussion with an older Tigers fan at Papalinos across the street from St. X a few hours ago as the crowd was starting to build. He was less than optimistic about not only tonight, but for the season. He too believes that BG has an advantage tonight.

After Owensboro game, hard to be optimistic but maybe that changes tonight. BG coming off big win over Bullitt East, so I'm not surprised people would favor them.
