Not a bad first outing for CCH. Its largely a young team and beating Ryle 50-6 is a good thing. I took 3 things away from the game -

Glad to see some diverse looks from the CCH offense.

The defensive backfield did pretty well all considered.

Ryle's got a whole lot to work on in all aspects of their game.

That made me laugh, Ru. It was good to see you. I believe this year will be a test of the character and perseverance of players and the skill of the coaching staff. The Raiders certainly did not look

Too many big and fast players for Cov Cath across the board. Jonny Lind, in particular, is going to be a huge problem for most high school linemen.

For Cov Cath - a noticeable defensive shift on the staff. A lot of quarters coverage and that second level is really good.

I’ll keep it nice for Ryle in that there I think their QB is going to end up being pretty good. Otherwise, man…. Bad, bad special teams and a ton of penalties.

Also - Dylan Courtney has some pretty crazy tools at QB. Looks every bit of 6’3, fast enough to start at receiver and also a really nice arm. As he gets his feet wet the first few games, he’s going to be an issue for defenses.

I thought he threw a great ball tonight, and he definitely has all of the tools. I'm sure once he settles in and grows in confidence he will be able to go through all of his progressions, seemed like the lefty kept his eyes on the left side of the offense, which is understandable for a first time varsity starter.

Like others have said, it is so nice to see a two-dimensional offense for the Colonels, the sophomore back ran well, and Courtney has a lot of weapons to throw to.

Next week will be a stern test for the Colonels, but you have to love what you saw across the board tonight.

“If the team in white tonight committed that same penalty, I would have said the same thing .”

No, you wouldn’t have. You had a few opportunities tonight to make positive comments and you “thoroughly” chose to not. Also, who’s “you “ ? You have no idea which team I’m rooting for. I do thank you for the copy/paste definitions of words I guess you felt were difficult, as I never mentioned them. I’m sorry my response was hard for you and caused confusion.

Being affiliated with Cov Cath myself, I’ve witnessed how high school football is life for a lot of alumni there. Next Friday is only a few more sleeps for you! Go Colonels.

“No, you wouldn’t have” is a pretty arrogant and laughable thing to say with absolutely no way of knowing what I would or wouldn’t have said. You seem far more invested in policing my comments than I am interested in whatever point you’re trying to make.

Best of luck.

Each of you had your shot at the other, no more, please.

Coming back to the game, how good is CovCath?

CovCath has nice pieces. Definitely a high upside, but tough to glean much from this one. Things to clean up for sure, next week will be more telling.

Well put. There's no doubting that there's some really great talent on the team. With as many sophomores and juniors as we saw tonight getting their first varsity starts, it's a little hard telling what the team's going to look like once everyone is settled in with the "firstie willies" out of the way and everyone is firing in all cylinders.

Dylan Courtney is a great example. He had a solid night...but once he's a little more comfortable stepping up into a pocket of five and six 230+ pound pass-rushers trying to get at him, and a little more confident in his ability to sling the ball without having an experienced DB pick him off or knock his pass down, then I think we're gonna see something really impressive out of him.

Ryle shot themselves in the foot tonight more times than I can recall seeing a varsity football team do for QUITE some time, so unfortunately tonight's game won't really work as much of a measuring stick against teams like Elder and Highlands.

Yeah so no one was “absolutely moaned” or made a bone headed play. The commentary in this thread is weird. Your avatar makes sense though. Perhaps mention Ryle in a positive manner as well? They’re also high school kids.

I did type "absolutely moaned" in one of my posts during the second quarter last night. My apologies for that being a typo, on by part. Trying to type in play-by-play on a cell phone while watching a live football game doesn't afford me much time to doublecheck for typing errors, and my phone evidently auto-corrected "absolutely mobbed" to "absolutely moaned". And Roberts was absolutely mobbed. When you have two D1 commits on the defensive side of the ball who simultaneously meet a running back head-on and half of the folks in the stands immediately respond with one big "ooooh" all in unison....well....mobbed is one word for that, at least.

For the record, anyone on BluegrassPreps is more than welcome to freely contribute during games. If you want to see more Ryle-positive commentary, then might I suggest that you go right ahead and add whatever positives you see fit to mention about Ryle, going forward.

From a height/weight/speed standpoint, I think it’s the best they’ve been in a while. There’s lot of future college guys anywhere from scholarship FBS to good NAIA with some pretty good coaching and good QB play.

Tough sledding for Ryle's offense last night. By my count they netted 112 total yards on the night; 9 total offensive yards and -6 rushing yards in the second half for the Raiders. QB Brody Smith was sacked 4 times, resulting in -17 total rushing yards on his 7 carries.

First Half Rushing (10 carries for 12 yards):
Hudson Stephens: 5 carries for 15 yards
Brody Smith: 4 carries for -4 yards

Brody Smith: 2-8 (25.0%) passing for 15 yards with 1 INT
Andrew Irwin: 1 catch for 8 yards
Evan Kincaid: 1 catch for 7 yards

CCH won the JV game easily today.
