Sorsby granted an injunction

A question that I have to ask - Is Sorsby really worth all of this trouble?  In the UC games that I watched, he was a very good runner and a moderate passer.  However, I wouldn't call him Heisman material.

I agree with your assessment. However, football coaches apparently don’t agree. Which is why he was considered as possibly the top QB target in the portal and got big money.

The actual court case was scheduled for February, not the appeal. The actual injunction he was just granted basically prevents the NCAA from punishing him until the actual case is heard. The appeal wi

The judges were Tech grads. Go figure. Look, I don't believe this kid will play 1 snap for the Red Raiders. Thank goodness he is no longer a Bearcat. What a joke. These kids cannot bet on games if they are actively playing, period.

If a kid bets, is a QB, throws a pick to end a contest, everyone will question if the pick was intentional, you catch my drift? He does not have a career in the NCAA nor NFL, IMO. Who would touch him? Maybe the CFL north of the border?

No way Tech loses money with lost games, revenue, etc. They have to cut the chord, regardless of talent. What a boneheaded decison this kid made- more times than 1!

Hmmm....ESPN has him as a "Tier 9" candidate among all quarterbacks next season.

Hmmm…. Just looked at the article you are referencing. It is talking about a teams QB situation and its tier heading into the season. Which that article is from two weeks ago when the assumption was he wouldn’t be allowed to play. Which it even says as much by stating the others QBs on the team will have to play the hero this year, and their tier is based off those guys.

Here is an article by espn back in January talking about the top transfer QBs, before his gambling trouble came to light. Which espn had him ranked as the top transfer QB. Which is why he got paid a crap ton by Texas Tech to be their QB, as they won the battle for him over LSU.

Then PFF had him as the 7th best QB in the country heading into this season before his gambling came up. Also NFL projections had him as a possible first round pick for next year.

As I said I actually agree with your assessment of him. However, college coaches, people who do rankings, etc all seem to disagree with us and think of him very highly as a Qb.

Wasn't he the top QB in the transfer portal?

Well, I guess this is a moot point now.  Sorsby is going into the NFL supplemental draft instead of attempting to play for Texas Tech.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/I'd/49077466/texas-tech-transfer-qb-brendan-sorsby-plans-enter-nfl-supplemental-draft

The NFL....Where there's an automatic one year ban for betting on games and lifetime banishment for fixing a game......hmmm, doesn't sound like much of a football future to me.    If he played like someone named "Manning", "Montana", "Marino" (where'd all these "M"s come from??), etc. maybe some GM takes a risk, extracts a promise from the kid in blood, and saddles him with a million contract penalties for violating the rules......but - while he may be an above average QB - I just don't see him as being such a talent that many teams will be willing to take that risk / waste that money (except maybe Cleveland, but they haven't recognized exceptional QB talent since Kosar.....? )

Bottom-line:  The kid has a problem, and he screwed up BIG.   I feel sorry for him, truly.   I have a friend who has a similar problem.   Unfortunately for Sorsby, it may have just cost him BIG.

At the end of the day many were projecting him to be a 1st or 2nd round pick in the 2027 draft. So now with him being in the supplemental draft. I definitely could see a team being willing to use one of their late round draft picks in the supplemental draft to get a guy people were considering as a 1st or 2nd round talent. Not to mention would get him at a cheaper price now, and even if the NFL suspends him for this first year, they still own the rights. So for NFL teams I do think teams will be willing to put a late round draft pick offer in, because it is more of a higher reward than risk at this point.

I agree, I can see a 4th round pick by teams like the Jets or Cards.

Good point.

All moot points the NFL just announced and are sending a letter to Sorsby that they will not be having a supplemental draft this summer, so Sarsby's only shot at the NFL will not be until the 2027 NFL draft.

I wonder if he can reverse course now and play for Texas Tech?  Only seems fair.
