A horrible weekend in Pittsburgh for the Reds as they get swept by the Pirates. The Reds in the last 69 games at PNC Park are now 21-68. Next up is a huge 4 game series with the Cubs in Chicago. I would like for the Reds to take 3 out of 4 but would be happy with a split.

Yeah, it might be a good time for the Reds to step up.

Reds and Cubs have started after a weather delay and after 1 inning it is 0-0. A good opening inning for Petty only throwing 9 pitches in the inning.

Reds pick up a run in the top of the 3rd on a Belday homer and led 1-0.

Reds get a 2-run homer by Ke Bryan Hayes and the Reds now led 3-0 after 3.5 innings.

Well the Cubs tie it on a 3-run homer by Suzuki after walks to Bregman and Happ and it is now tied at 3 after 4 innings. 

I was impressed with Chase Petty. Do the Reds have any other pitchers named Chase they can activate?

Reds get the go ahead run on a Steer single and led 4-3 heading to the bottom of the 8th.

Reds blow a one run lead in the bottom of the 9th and it is now tied at 4.

Cubs get a walk off solo homer and lose 5-4! Sad.

Our best defensive outfielder Myers looked shaky on one fly ball then dropped the ball in the 9th. 

I've said it before and I'll say it again.  Pagan cannot be this teams closer.  He just can't get it done.  Not sure if the Reds have anyone in the organization that can be, but I would much rather see Santillan.

You answered your own question. The Reds don't have a better option. Santillan and Ashcraft both walk too many people. I don't think they are ready yet mentally to be the closer. Nothing is more infuriating than relievers pitching scared and walking people.

Pagan will get better. He is battle tested and proven. He will not be one of the top closers in MLB but he will be above average.
