February 12, 200719 yr I think its 100% of the time if you criticize ANYTHING (coach, player, administrator, facilities) UK related you're automatically moved into the 18% so that your (however valid) argument can be ignored. I guess I need to crack down on how my catch phrase is being used...
February 12, 200719 yr I think UK has a GREAT chance to make it for the final four...Right after the Florida game i looked at my buddies and told them this UK team has final four potential...they are great on Defense, they killed Florida in rebounds, and we can bring 5 decent guys off the bench. But, the most important thing in this team is the will to never quit. they could have easily quit being down 9 with thirty seconds remaining, but instead they actually had a chance to send it into overtime...No QUIT in this team and I like it...
February 12, 200719 yr I NEVER count out the cats. I may not put much money on it though! :sssh: We can make it If and WHEN = The Big Dog is fed and plays to potential. Defend well from start to finish. We continue to rebound well from other players. Bradley boosts his drives and assist. The freshmen continue to improve and provide depth. Crawford scores his average. (which he usually does, thus his average)
February 12, 200719 yr I think it is very possible as nobody is overly dominant but I don't think it will happen. There are about 12 or so teams that have final 4 potential if the cards fall right.
February 12, 200719 yr A few years back the Courier-Journal polled some UK fans and 18% of them said Duke was their main rival (including those that use it as ammo). The results may not lie, but I have a hard time believing that many people come close to thinking that way. For as big of an indictment as it may be to the thought process of some UK fans, I saw it as more of a slap in the face to UK's actual rival, UL. I look at more of the 18% as the people with unrealistic expectations that belive UK basketball started when Rick Pitino was hired and that 1996-1998 was an exception and not the norm. :thumb: I agree with you bugatti on what the 18% means. This is what I always equated it to along with it's meaning those who claim to be U.K. fans and the only time that you hear from them is for them to complain and/or after a loss. rather than those who consider Duke as U.K.'s biggest rival. Imo U.K.'s biggerst rivals are : 1.) Florida / U.L. 3.) Tennessee 4.) Indiana.
February 12, 200719 yr It was never meant to only cover Duke as a "rival". It was just a joke that assigned a number to what many talked about back then as the "vocal minority". Remember I started it when UK was winning all the time, but there was still a smaller group of Tubby bashers hanging around. It was all in fun, but has taken a life of its own the last year and a half. Maybe I should start a thread redefining the term... :bunny:
February 12, 200719 yr Ok, I'm kind of new on here, so I'm about ready to make my opening "splash". I've been around the game of basketball for a long time and I know a lot about the game. I will go on paper today (and I'm sure I will get hammered for saying this) as saying that this UK team has all the ingredients to make a run to the Final Four this season. Without knowing their seed, potential oppenents, and any other uncontrollable factors, I would put the Cats in the Final Four on my bracket if the tourney started this week. Feel free to use and abuse (some support from the Cats true fans would be appreciated, as well :ylsuper: ) Go Cats!!! I feel that it is certainly possible for U.K. to make it to the final 4 this year but I certainly do not or am not predicting that. This team has a lot of potential, are much better than what a lot of people thought before the season and as always with Tubby Smith are very well coached and one of the best defensive teams in the country. It cetainly is not out of the question but I just don't look for it this season. Depending on who we can bring in recruiting wise I do believe that next season the Cats can be there. By the way, welcome to the site!! :thumb:
February 12, 200719 yr Not necessarily. It would take a little more consistency than they've shown. That's why I wouldn't be able to pick them...if they managed to find the consistency that's been lacking, then they'd definitely have a chance, but there is no reason to expect a team that has struggled to play two good halves, much less string together 6 good games, to suddenly do so when the stakes are the highest. I hope they do though.
February 12, 200719 yr It could happen, this year has a lot of young teams, and with a good seed anything is possible. That said, I would not get my hopes set on it.
February 12, 200719 yr Could someone explain the 18% to me? It was never meant to only cover Duke as a "rival". :bunny:That is how I remember it, it was a more politically correct term to describe the vocal minority of UK fans that tend to think or at least make comments to support the ideas, that UK is still reguarded as a year in and out top Basketball powerhouse and UK should always go to the Final four, whose only real rival is Duke, Louisville is the root of all evil and/or U of L has no basketball tradition and that if it weren't for Tubby holding them back the Cats would win every game, and that question the masculinity of whoever is the best player for the University of Florida. The CJ article said 18% of Cats fans said Duke was there main rival and therefore we established a baseline percentage and a name for the Vocal Minority of crazy Cats fans as 18%.:thumb:
February 12, 200719 yr At what spots? They have some PG issues. Jasper can't shot, Bradley doesn't run the spot good. Morris only plays when he wants. Crawford could go for 30 or for 5 and Perry will be lucky to get 10 a game. They are all inconsistent and unless that changes it will have to be a prefect situation. I am really surprised people keep saying this! Yeah earlier in the year Bradley didn't do that good of a job running the offense at all, but I would say since the middle of January Bradley when he has been at the point has run the offense very smoothly...

Feel free to use and abuse (some support from the Cats true fans would be appreciated, as well :ylsuper: ) Go Cats!!! Welcome to the site and you know what I agree with you! I been saying since the beginning of the season that this team was going to end up being a very special team that everyone is going to love by what we do in the NCAA tournament. If the tournament started today no I dont think we would get to the final four, but you can see this team does keep improving each game. We have played already 3 of the top 4 teams in the country, and in 2 of the games UCLA and UF we had our shots to win it at the end. And the UNC game they were pretty much in control the whole game, but we kept within striking distance all game long. The thing this team needs to work on is not trying to hard on the offensive end in the big games. Because if anyone has noticed in these big games this year, we have been missing alot of the open shots that we usually make against other teams. Crawford definitely seems like he is trying to hard in the big games and it messes up his shot, and same with Bradley. So hopefully by the time the tournament comes they will be use to the pressure of the big games, and be able to relax and knock down the shots they usually make against everyone else, and if they do that then they very will could make the final four and even win a National Championship...
February 12, 200719 yr If they are going to make a run the "Oh-Fers" are going to have to be consistent for 4 games. I'm not sold that they can do it...
February 12, 200719 yr If they are going to make a run the "Oh-Fers" are going to have to be consistent for 4 games. I'm not sold that they can do it... I agree with that, as of right now they have never shown they can do that yet...
