  • Not surprised by this. He probably sealed his own fate when he took his team off the court before the game was over a few weeks ago.

The job was posted today on the school website.  Not sure when, no official announcement was made by the school.  I think Bracken County has to try and get Brian Kirk. You aren’t going to find ma

Don't think what you are implying means there is a correlation.  Pretty much two programs have dominated the region.  How many of those schools mentioned have a realistic chance of winning the region anyway? In the last ten years:

2017: Scott (Steve Fromeyer's first season)
2018: Campbell County
2019: Campbell County
2020: George Rogers Clark
2021: George Rogers Clark
2022: George Rogers Clark
2023: George Rogers Clark
2024: Campbell County
2025: Montgomery County
2026: George Rogers Clark

Campbell County won in 2024.

I think this job will get more interest than last time. I think last time there were only like three applicants.

Why do you think that, has anything changed at Bracken?

When Adam Reed left they were only going to have about six players on the varsity team.  Mason County was also much better.  I think the district is winnable for the next two years for Bracken County and there are more players in the program.

This job will have more interest this go around. Does anyone know if they have any young talent or how their freshman/JV teams did this season?

Are these not two of the biggest schools in the best locations compared to the rest of the region though? The dominance is well above what I think it would be. But these two schools should be right there every year in this region to be fair.

I don't have the scores, but they at least had a freshman team, which is an improvement because they had gone many years without one.

I'm not bashing Bracken County, but some schools will always be a stepping stone type job and they will vary from time to time.

They haven't really had any recent coaches who went somewhere better after, if they even coached varsity at all.  The only ones who had gone on to have success elsewhere were Robert Hammonds, Jay Fite, and Deron Breeze.  There aren't many teacher-coaches anymore who try to work their way up the coaching ladder.  They haven't had a certified teacher as a coach since 2014.

Bracken County hasn't had a coach with a career winning record since David Hamilton (1970-1980).

Hard to believe and always forget that Jay Fite and Deron Breeze coached there briefly. Does anyone know where Coach Hammonds and Coach Miles are now and if they are still coaching?

Any Kelch’s still around?
