Probably not a horrible loss for the Colonels.  A good grounding experience before going into the post season.

Game was never in doubt.

Coach Feldhaus took Coach Thelen to school last night.   The veteran had a game plan that the Colonels had no counter.  Central spread it and were patient versus the up “in you pressure” they just went by the defender under control and took advantage of size differential.   The Colonels tried bringing help from different areas of the floor but Central punished it by making extra pass to vacated areas.  The Colonels did not change anything on defensive end and very impressed by Central’s poise.  It is only one game in a hostile gym, but was interesting to see how the Colonels would fare versus a team with skilled size. I still expect the Colonels to roll right through the region by double figures, maybe even 20+ and then meet whoever survives the 7th Region.

Yes, they are very impressive.

Maybe the best outcome for both teams heading into the postseason. 

I hope both teams meet again. It is hard to beat a team twice! 

I saw the stats that showed Feldhaus with 13 rebounds, I would have thought he had 13 in the first half.

It wasn't even a bad loss, I've said all season MC would beat them this year.  I just don't think folks in NKY realized how good MC was.

For a team that was out coached and out sized, how did Cov Cath out score MC in the second half ? Cov. Cath had a poor shooting night, they had their opportunities, but missed a lot of close inside opportunities and missed some threes that were in and out. There were numerous walks and three second violations in the lane on MC and none of them were called. Cov. Cath. will rebound and be ready to continue their play in the District and Region.

One of the better officials in the 11th and for that matter, the commonwealth, was calling the game.  I'm sure he had a better view than I did from the stands.

When your starting 5 barely averages 6'1" and your opponent's starting 5 averages more than 6'3" you can't come out and miss 2 of every 3 shots you take for an entire game while they're making nearly 2 of every 3 of their shots. That's gonna be a loss every single time, no matter which coach does or says what.

I'm definitely not upset about the Colonels stepping into the postseason after this loss. It would be hard for anyone not to get a little bit of a "I've got this in the bag" attitude when they've got one of the biggest win-streaks in program history and they're rolling over most of their opponents by at least 18 or 20 points all season long. Anyone who follows closely will have also noticed how Cov Cath has been slow to get rolling in the first quarter of most of the games they've played in the back half of their regular season.

Getting popped in the nose with a loss like this is hopefully just like a big hit of smelling-salts for the entire team. They've worked hard all season, but when you're playing teams from the top tier of the top tier, working hard isn't all it takes to cut it...at all. When you're playing teams from the top of the top you've got to work your absolute best, along with every player on the team, and you've got to do it from the tip to the final buzzer. I like that this loss gives Cov Cath a reason to have a chip on their shoulder heading into tournament time, and like it's been mentioned already, it's awfully hard to beat a really good team twice.

Once Madison Central had them down 20 points in the 3rd quarter I think they had proven their point.  The final margin was just window dressing. Madison Central's game plan to turn their offense over and over until they got the shot that they wanted resulted in the Indians shooting 56% from the field, and never really being threatened.  That approach is what did Covington Catholic in, not a lack of 3 second calls.
