The other difference that is costly is JCPS has to pay into pension system whereas privates are usually 401k type retirement. When I was in fire dept the city paid around 50% of my salary to the pension system. Not sure what JCPS pays into it but probably not far off from that.

I looked up JCPS pension contribution and it's 12.9% so a lot less than I thought.

I hate to be this way but we have to "fail" kids that don't pass instead of passing them along.  After long enough, and it has been long enough, the system goes down the drain and the kids are the vic

My coaching stipend as Asst. track Coach is small enough that I donate it back to the school. If I was doing it for the money would definitely not be enough for me to want to coach.

JCPS coaching stipend pay is a joke.  I know high school coaches do not do it for the money, but they should at least be fairly compensated as compared to surrounding areas.

Looks like that's what teachers contribute with employers a little more around 16%.

One of my good friends is a department head at one of the schools you mentioned (just trying to help protect his anonymity a little here), and his wife has taught in two different public school systems local to Louisville. He jokes about how even as a department head, he's never made anywhere near what his wife has made.

The Archdiocese doesn't publicly publish an annual payscale, nor do Trinity or St. X, but recruitment agencies like ZipRecruiter and Indeed poll the entities listing jobs with them along with people applying for jobs, and they put out their own approximated payscales. Looking at those as sources, they list full-time teaching jobs in the Archdiocese of Louisville between $45K and $66K. JCPS does publish their payscale. First year teachers with Rank 1 certification in JCPS currently start at $62.8K and after twenty-five years of teaching they max out at $97K.

So using those figures, first year teachers make approximately 40% more in JCPS than they do in the Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Louisville. With the info available it's hard to compare apples-to-apples for teachers with 25 years of experience, but you can compare top-level pay between the two school systems, and the highest paid teachers in JCPS make 47% more than the teachers drawing top-level pay in schools from the Archdiocese.

So 40%-47% different...is that really "not that far off" in your book?

I know for a fact that the in the high schoolsthe difference in in pay is not 47%.  Could you find two teachers to make those numbers look right? maybe but teacher for teacher it is not that wide of a margin.

Scuttlebutt is that Southern's coach is also stepping down.

I can't say how true it is or isn't, but I've heard the same thing.

It is already posted on the JCPS web page.

Just added their number to the tally in the original post. That means more than HALF of the JCPS football programs will have new head coaches next year.

Wow!

Someone check me if I’m wrong, but does that mean that only Fairdale & Atherton have had their current head coaches longer than 3 or 4 years in JCPS?

That's correct. But Coach Wheeler at Butler would be in the mix but with two different stints.

Obviously this is a JCPS thread, buuuuuuut I'm going to go out on a limb here to say that this general length of tenure- unfortunately?

....is FAR more common from Pikeville to Paducah than we even realize.

With the little-to-no fanfare that JCPS seems to give to coaching changes within the district, one or two of the jobs may well be filled now, but I still haven't heard anything about Fern Creek, Iroquois, Southern, or Waggener conducting interviews or having made a hire.

1.) Central - Mekale McKay
2.) Doss - Ka'Saun Wall
3.) Fern Creek - OPEN
4.) Iroquois - OPEN
5.) Jeffersontown - Lonnie Oldham
6.) Male - Chase Porter
7.) Moore - Marcus Harris
8.) Pleasure Ridge Park - Keith May
9.) Southern - OPEN
10.) Valley - Jamon Brown
11.) Waggener - OPEN

Elsewhere in Jefferson County:

1.) St. Xavier - Brian Landis

Fern Creek has been filled. I’m hearing Southern has been filled as well but just not official yet. Waggener and Iroquois are the only jobs still open after this weekend.

We talked to Coach Josh Abell for our podcast after he resigned from Fern Creek. He was very complimentary of the Fern Creek Administration.

Chuck asked hm why there are so many open HFC jobs in JCPS.

He said JCPS is plagued w/ solving the problems of Louisville. And...."starts w/ better leadership and more support for athletics as a whole."

Coach Abell is looking to get into administration. Would love to see him in a JCPS role where he could impact HS football across the city. He is knowledgeable, experienced and genuinely cares about the kids. I am choosing to be optimistic about the future of JCPS football.

Fern Creek is filled.  They went with an internal hire and alum, Justin Nichols.

A few years ago there was a push in JCPS to limit or ban booster groups or parent fund raising. One of my kids was in public school and we were involved with fund raising for what she was involved in as she graduated the group was being told to shut it down. Did that become a district wide reality?
