Class Code: 7347CLASS TITLE:  Head Coach

REPORTS TO: Principal / Director of Athletics

BASIC FUNCTION: Coaches in various middle or secondary school athletic programs. To help each participating student achieve a high level skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

Promote sports in the schools and community.

Plan the assigned athletic program within the units established by approved budget.

Organize and supervise practices, competitions and events associated with athletic team.

Teach individual fundamental skills, team play, team strategy and rules and regulations of the game.

Teach good sportsmanship, self-control and character to all athletes.

Check eligibility of participants, including insurance coverage and parent consent.

Provide students a proper role model, emotional support, patience, a friendly attitude and general guidance.

Conduct learning experiences, with small groups of student athletes.

Recommend the purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms as appropriate for the health, safety, and welfare of student athletes.

Control access to school facilities opened for team practices.

Prepares budget request for consideration of principal and SBDM.

Oversees safety conditions, proper maintenance, and care of facility and equipment.

Perform other duties assigned by the principal or athletic director.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of:

Fundamentals of sports.

Health and safety regulations.

Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.

Ability to:

Work with all types of students.

Understand and follow oral and written directions.

Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

Communicate effectively with students, faculty, parents, media and the community.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

A valid teaching certificate in the state of Kentucky, or any combination equivalent to: high school diploma, G.E.D. Certificate or demonstrated progress toward obtaining a G.E.D. as required by Kentucky law, or 64 semester hours from an accredited college or university. Preference will be given to certified individuals.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Coaching certification class conducted by KHSAA (secondary coaching positions only, not required of middle school level positions.)

A criminal records check, AIDS awareness training, and current certification in first aid and CPR.

Tough job in a tough district. Outside of the dream team in 1991 not sure how you go about this one. Thoughts?

The have great facilities. Tough district. They should get some good applicants.

Whoa....I didn't see this one coming. Am I remembering correctly that Coach Chirico has a "day job" outside of education? Could this have had something to do with professional pursuits other than football?

Is he MoCo bound?

GRC's football numbers plummeted the past 2 years. RDC Middle football has great numbers, yet majority of those kids aren't on the high school roster.

The middle school numbers are ok but I wouldn’t call them great. GRC only has 1 middle school going into it which really hurts them. For example Mad Central has 3. They have really nice facilities but are pretty much at a disadvantage in every other aspect of 6A football

I don't know why more schools would make a difference.  It's the same number of kids.  Would actually think only 1 middle school would be an advantage.  One middle school coaching staff to get on the same page and same terminology.  Where are the middle school football kids going?  Just not playing or are they losing a lot to neighboring schools?  Outstanding facilities and no city school, I would think this would be a great job.  Is the Administration not very supportive?

Multiple middle schools = a lot more kids playing football.  If all 3 teams that feed MC have a team, you might get 20 8th graders a year per team that have all played significant minutes the MS level.

If you have 1 team, that limits the kids playing in this scenario.

Multiple Middle Schools is a big bonus opportunity. Just think about development in each position. Two QB from every school in every class that could get meaningful reps at the young age across the board at the other positions as well. having one school limits how many kids can move into the high school.

Imagine one school:

2 QB

2 RB

3-4WR

etc...

VS 3 schools:

6QB

6RB

12WR

OL/DL...

so much more depth being developed. 

One middle school should be an advantage. The coach can input all exactly what they want and have a staff of who they want to make sure they are ready when they reach the high school. A little tougher with multiple high schools. That isn’t an excuse for numbers or lack of being prepared unless the coaches aren’t taking advantage of it.
