Scott Co. were kings of the 859 then. Nobody outside of Louisville was beating the Cards.

Except for Lafayette I believe.  That was a heck of a run.

Highlands. Maybe a wider margin than most would think.

Birds- 44

Cards- 20

If the Birds don’t win this matchup, I would project it will be because of Coach McKee and his 29 years of fine tuning his WingT offense.  SC cannot matchup size wise at almost any position.  But they play like a swarm of yellowjackets…you don’t see the blocker coming and at contact the runner is already past you.  Small, quick and deadly.

Birds pull this one out but not without a fight from the Former king of the 859!

Devils Advocate here because I love the Wing T. I know Scott Co and Coach McKee love the Wing T offense. In 29 years what has that achieved that adapting to the newer offense could not also achieve?

I guess the better question is: what was Scott Cos program before Coach McKee vs now, and was this offense the only way they could compete with the big schools?

Good luck Friday to both teams.

IMO, coaches who run Wing T and the triple are avoiding up and down years of inconsistency in line play. It is hard to consistently compete with teams who have 6’3 280+ across the board year in and year out! You don't have to block everyone and the mesh point hits so quickly you’re at the line of scrimmage before the defense is able to read and react.

Secondly it is a natural time management tool. As a play caller you’re always thinking stay ahead of the chains and if you’re the inferior opponent and both of these systems allow for a natural way to maintain a longer time of possession and keep your defense off of the field. While I know there are plenty of newer versions of these offenses that offer these same benefits and principals but allow for a modern style of play, I imagine the old saying applies “If it ain’t broke, why fix it?”

I do believe this style of play hinders you at some point and that’s one of the reasons we have not seen the cardinals in December as of late!

Or maybe their absence recently is because the school system split into two when Great Crossings HS was started.  New facilities both academic and athletic diluted the talent pool and it has taken Coach McKee time to rebuild..

Before McKee they won four football games in two seasons. The season of his hire he won 7 games, then 9 the year after and so on.

When you run the Wing-T as pristine as Scott Co. changing to another offense is going to set your program back a year or two. McKee will never change the offense as long as he’s the head coach.

The offense has not been why the Cards haven’t been to the finals since ‘18. Douglass was there for a while and still dominant at the time, then Cooper has put a throne in their side in the modern time.

2022 they were the second best 5A team but lost by a point to Southwestern when their offense only had one possession the entire second half and lost a 22-0 halftime lead.

Another factor is the school split. If the schools never split, Scott County’s backfield would feature Emongo AND Ballard. They’d never punt the ball.

As much as its still the "same", just like most Wing T teams they're still adapting and changin within the system based on personnel. For years McKee would talk about how much he didn't like Buck sweep, now he runs it a lot.

Highlands 28-14.

I am getting a little concerned on the longevity of the injury that has sidelined Gabe Williams.  We haven't seen him dressed the last 2 games. I am praying for a speedy recovery and we can see him back on the field sooner than later.  Until then, next man up!
