Really shocked, not shocked if that makes sense. He sets his son up as HC while freeing himself up for other pursuits outside of basketball. 

Guy has been to the highest highs and the lowest lows during his coaching career.  Hope he enjoys retirement.

He'll kill it on TV if he chooses to do that. 

If I was ESPN I'd give Seth Greenburg and/or Jay Williams the boot and add Pearl to Gameday immediately.

Rather have him on the CBS/TNT/TBS/Tru TV combo for March Madness.

I'm sure if ESPN gives one of them the boot, they'll wedge Stephen A in there.

I can see why. While Bruce Pearl has been a great coach for decades, proving himself in D2, low-level D1, and in the SEC, his son's biggest claim to fame is just that: being Bruce's son. Bruce Pearl has made Auburn a top-tier job and maybe his son can carry that on, but this opening would have drawn a lot of interest and instead its simply being handed off on seemingly a wing and a prayer.

I understand "life" can happen to some people, but if this was premeditated, it reeks of privilege and what everyone hates about university culture. 

Yeah, Steven Pearl's resume consists of 1) Being Bruce Pearl's son; 2) Playing for Bruce Pearl at Tennessee as a walk-on/deep bench guy; 3) Medical sales rep for Stryker; and 4) Being an assistant under Bruce Pearl for several years. 

Official practice for the '25-'26 season begins today for Auburn. 

It will be interesting to see how Steven does...this looks to be totally premeditated at least by Pearl to ensure his son got the job (quitting the day before practice starts).

I was looking for some "sports talk" to listen to while working yesterday and I turned on Stephen A and within 10 minutes I think I was yelling at him to shut up and I changed the station.

And how long the leash is. Auburn has traditionally been pretty quick to pull the plug on football hires. Will they do the same if Steven struggles for a year or two?
