6A South Warren (5-0) at 5A Pulaski County (4-1)

The Little Rebel Bowl!

Favorite Rebel sons Brandon Smith and Travis Burns lead their respective teams to meet in this hopefully new series now and into the future.  And don’t forget Coach Chuck Smith still coaches defense at South Warren.  So, this game puts some big pieces of the former Rebel band back together!

This will be the first ever matchup between these two solid programs.  And this game sets both teams up to begin their District slates the following game.

Pulaski County Information

The Maroons are led by SR QB Zak Anderson who is 42 for 63 on the year thru 4 games for 497 yards and 5 TDs vs 3 INTs.  But the Maroons are one of the best rushing teams in the state led by underrated JR Kasen Brock who has 514 yards on the year from 77 carries earning 8 TDs.  The top WR is SO Winston Ford who has 16 catches for 155 yards and 1 TD.

Defensively, Pulaski is led by JR Cohen Finley with 48 tackles on the year including 7 tackles for loss and 3 sacks.

South Warren Information

The Spartans are led by JR QB Camden Page who played very well last night.  Page through 4 games is 65 for 90 with 906 passing yards 9 TDs vs 4 INTs.

They have solid skill guys in SR RB Kayden York, who is much better than the state knows with 262 yards rushing and 6 TDs and SR WR Jake Carter with 29 catches for 407 yards and 3 TDs.

But defensively is where the Spartans usually hang their hat.  “BIG” Jaquise Smith and Malik Butler anchor that DLine and it is surely a tough road trying to gain yards up the middle vs Sparty.  They have good LBs as well who do a nice job disrupting what your offense wants to do.

Game Preview

This should be an entertaining game.  Pulaski wants to run the ball.  South Warren wants to stop the run.  Something will have to give.  But at some point, in this game, Pulaski will need to pass.  The question is, can they?  The part that is less clear is South’s offense vs Pulaski’s defense.  South QB Camden Page continues to improve and their offensive schemes are very difficult to decipher.  I think Page’s passing and Yorks’s running will keep the Maroons off balance in this game.  I like South to win, but probably not by a lot.

Who wins this game and why?

Give me SW by a few scores.

South Warren 35-21.

Was Pulaski exposed last week verses Johnson Central as far as the run game?

I like South Warren in this match-up 28-6.

It was a Line of Scrimmage exposure more than a run game exposure, IMHO.

Johnson Central has a very, very good Oline and whipped the Maroons in the trenches on both sides of the ball.

Though South Warren plays a completely different scheme I think we see more of the same this week. I will take South Warren by 18-20.

I think South runs the clock.

Johnson Central scrubbed away a lot of the shine from this game. Pulaski hadn't looked dominant in any previous games, but I didn't see last week coming. I still like the team they've got and the future is bright with Burns in place, but I'm thinking South has their way this week.

I would not be surprised to see a Running Clock in this game with SW putting to them.  Especially after a sluggish game against Hoptown last Friday.

Pulaski comes out fired up after getting hammered…in the end South Warren seems to always win big matchups if they are close.  Give me South 33-21.

The Maroon Sports Network broadcast is live.

We've got double bagels ? through one quarter of play.

Tied at 0.

Pulaski is threatening at SW's 16 when play resumes.
